We used our fire-fighting unit today - but not to put out a fire

We had a full-on morning here on our little property in Western Australia. Yesterday we picked up two pet sheep in the trailer and brought them home. Today we needed to get all the poo and pee out of the trailer so we took it down near our new fire-fighting unit and hosed the trailer out with that. I now know how to start the pump as long as I don’t forget before I need to do it again. Once we had the floor cleaned, we began the task of loading old tyres into it. We will take them out to a farmer in the morning. The tyres have been stabilising the ground at the side of the shed but they are too big a fire hazard there so we’re giving them away. We have plans to put netting over the bank which would do the same job as the tyres but not catch alight. We have a dozen or so tyres left which won’t fit on the trailer. The bags at the front of the trailer were put there as a wind-break for Harry and Solomon, our new sheep. I think I’ll sleep well tonight.

It sounds like you've already had a busy day, Judy... You and Vince might think about a little nap this afternoon.

Vince went off to golf and I made cheese straws, mopped the kitchen floor, brought the washing in - I was the original busy bee today.

We put netting too over the steep area of the garden, I think it is a safer solution for you. I recognized the protection you said you put as a wind-break for Harry and Solomon.

@JudyEv The netting is working very well here. I have seen that the gardeners used the same system on the hill in front of us and the grass has now covered the area and you see nothing.

The netting will also stop the rabbits burrowing into the bank. The grass will grow well there in winter so there is no reason why the netting won't be a good solution.

@LadyDuck We saw netting used a lot in Europe on banks along the roadsides.

I will for sure. We're buying them collars today as well as a bag of something nice so we can give them treats from time to time.

@LindaOHio Just for pets. I used to have a spinning wheel but sold it. Spinning makes my back and shoulders ache and not all wool makes good yarn.

It is good that you have started using your fire fighting unit may be not to extinguish fire but by that you would know how to use it if and when need arises. You should not be confused if your husband not at home and you have to use it.

Tyres here are recycled as plant pots and they are selling so fast because many have shifted into planting ornamentals. And also they like the tyre pot because it is good in protecting the roots since it is thick and does not break unlike ceramic and plastic.

@JudyEv they use very sharp cutter and then sewn with the use of tie wire. They punch hole for the tie wire to insert using hot rod.
