Have any of your nails died and come back to life?

Late last year, I started feeling pain on my right thumb. I didn’t mind it because hey it was just a thumb. Not a broken bone or something. Then I noticed a part of the fingernail going darker in color and becoming more brittle. It’s slowly dying on me, I thought. I felt devastated and searched Google what happened. And all I could see were photos of somber-looking dying fingernails! Huhu
But today, seems like there’s a glimmer of hope after all. The darker color has turned pale and the brittle part has stopped. Maybe. Not sure. I can see new whitish fingernail growing. I have to wait a few months more though for the whole dead part to be gone but it’s something I’m looking forward to. How fast do fingernails grow anyway? I just can’t wait.
Any dead/dying/reincarnated nail story?
Photo is of a finger model.

No dying but I forcefully removed it. Sounds gory? Well, it had to be done. I stubbed my feet at a door while I was half awake. I was like 14 or something at the time. The door was metal and one of the nails was tore, almost pull out. It was so painful and yes, no longer sleepy afterwards. I could not leave it there as it would be more painful. It was bleeding a lot too. So I grit my teeth and quickly pull it out as fast as I could. Then I clean the wound and applied the medicine. It took years but the nail did grow back.

Nope never had this happen but I have had all kinds of nail problems like brittle nails that easily break but lately they have been doing all right. Occasionally I polish them and that seems to keep them stronger,

@sol_cee yes, the polish keep my nails better than not having any polish at all. There are different nail polishes that strengthen nails

It's a fungus. My toe nails and couple of finger nails got it no worry

I went on a long hike in tight shoes once. My feet were excruciatingly painful after that but I also noticed the nail on my big toe was starting to turn black. It fell off and then eventually regrew.

Fingernails grow about 2.5 mm per month.
I lost a fingernail when I was a kid. My brothers were pushing me in a wagon when I fell forward onto the handle. The brother pulling the wagon raised the handle and caught my finger between the handle and the wagon bed. The fingernail turned black and came off... It took around eight or nine months for the fingernail to grow back...

@sol_cee I knocked my big toe on a stone many years ago while in promary school. It took a longer time to heal. Even now, when I hit it accidentally or cut the nail on it, it's so painful. By then I was in class 2.i used to wear sandals in school.

I have a toenail doing similarly. My foot doctor said I must have injured it, and yes, I am growing a new one, but it takes months and months.
