It Pays to Wear a Mask

Briefly...., our grandson, in the red with the trophy, was asked to be the goalie for a hockey team far from home.
Our older son and our grandson had to stay in a hotel for the game. They walked into the hotel wearing masks.
In the lobby, they saw the hockey team running wild and the parents congregated without masks drinking and socializing.
They waved a hi and immediately took the elevator to their room. They bring their own blankets and pillows when they have “away” hockey games.
My grandson suited up in the locker room the next day with his mask. His dad wore a mask and helped him. He has lots of protective equipment to wear.
As a goalie, he didn’t wear a mask, but the following week, our son found out that all the parents and all the children came down with Covid-19. All except our son and grandson.
So wear your masks!
Btw, we are home from our ski vacation and celebrating Friday date night. As if we’d skip it!

In the sports events we are watching, we hear about strict protocols and bio-bubbles.
I think that during such events, post match celebrations should be done in a supervised manner with non-players always wearing masks.
Overall in India, the cases were coming down.
Yet in some states and cities, people became a bit complacent or may be careless and cases are on the rise.
So well, still not the time to relax !

Yes. I am seeing a lot of people been administered vaccines in many countries but I am interested in knowing how effective they are down 3/4 months.
That would be very crucial.

Good for them for following the same practices of not fraternizing with those not in your immediate circle too. That might be when everyone caught it.

Those parents were in charge of their children, teaching them that masks don't matter! How foolish And your son/grandson were safe, because they followed the rules! Thank God

Happy Fri-date night . . . if you were skipping it, I'd say this account was hijacked and it's not you .
I know your family does all the right/safe things . . . and thank goodness. We cannot control anyone else and their choices, but we can do whatever can to keep ourselves things safe - including wearing a mask!!

Thank you! After a long day of cleaning and laundry, it was welcome. Even if I had to have it on a Monday, bit was welcome.
Exactly! Those fools all suffered badly. I hate to say it, but they should have known better.
At another game, one father called his son out of a game immediately, because his coach had gotten Covid. He didn’t want to expose the other kids the second he got word. Some people are consider and smart, while the rest are idiots.

@DianneN Hope you had a lovely evening !
Seriously, it was quite foolish. That was definitely not the time or place to let their guards down. I hope everyone recovers from this, but it could have totally been avoided.
Those idiot types make me so angry!

@DianneN That is right there is no place like home for sure. Those adults are suppose to showing the kids the right thing to do and them not wearing a mask is showing them it is ok not to wear one.

@DianneN yes in here too same, It reminds me that when corona entered Indonesia for the first time, the masks became scarce, hand sanitizers were also scarce and market foodstuffs sold out, people always used masks. now we are used to living side by side with this virus, and some people don't really care about health protocols anymore.

Your son and your grandson's abiding with health protocols really paid off. I hope the rest of the parents and your grandson's team mates recovered from their Covid 19 infection.

Thanks! My son and grandson are always careful. I worry that the kids don’t wear masks during competitions, but at least they are tested before hand and parents must watch the games outside on a huge TV.
All teammates and their parents had to quarantine and are as fine as they can be now.

@sunrisefan Yes, they are very careful most of the time. The kids are required to wear masks all the time except when playing.

@DianneN That's good! Despite the pandemic, the kids can go on with their activities with the proper health protocols.
