Student: I Am a Master of English...What?!?

I am trying not to be grumpy due to a lack of sleep today. A professional male student was so full of himself. My patience too low because I am feeling so sleepy. Me: Why do you like studying English? Student: I do not need to study it since I am a master of English. Me: Uhm, okay. I do not want to contradict him since it will be a long story. Besides the point, it can lead to a big argument. Even I cannot claim to be a master of this language. How do you manage a person who is full of herself or himself? Image Credit: usready.org

@LadyDuck I will just feed his ego if I gave in to his claim. I just gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I agree. If he does not need to learn the English language, it would be better not to book my classes online. Besides, he is just wasting his time and money. The mere fact is that he has lots of grammar mistakes and mispronounced words during the class this morning.

It's up to them, when they don't understand a word they are usually embarrassed to ask.

He is just being arrogant. Thinking than being a manager, he is Mr. All-knowing.

@rakski If I am full of energy, I will do it. I did this in my previous students who acted like this.

You are on point. That's why I am just smiling without any words. If I am really not in the mood, I sometimes bombarded him or her with grammar mistakes and mispronounced words.

Speaking in a restaurant, we need to conceal our anger because they might do something to the food we ordered.

I'm not as nice as you. I would start pointing out every mistake he's ever made. *shrug* I probably would be fired the next day, though.

I need to build a rapport with the new student first. Then, he or she will be bombarded with their flaws in using the English language. It usually happens for the next classes with me.

The immediate reaction perhaps would be asking the guy then why he is there but I suppose as you say that would lead to further arguments (lol)

I agree. I have a woman student who argued with me before. She does not need to be corrected. So I just listen to her when talking in every class. It is a good thing because I am not going to give more feedback on her performance.

Different behaviors to deal with.. Well i am not that patient..but being a teacher you really need to hold the temper..and stretch your patience.
