We cut down two trees

We actually did some work today. Vince spent most of the morning on the phone waiting for support on a new photo program but once he’d given up on that (they’ll sort it overnight), we went shopping and I didn’t need any money this time as Vince had his wallet. You might remember I forgot my purse a few days ago. After lunch, we cut down two trees. One is in the photo. It’s a nice tree and an attractive shape but soon it will be up in the power lines so it had to come down. The other one was similar. We have piled the branches into heaps and when they dry and it’s fire season, we’ll burn them. We did get some firewood out of one. We weren’t up to tackling the other three that have to come down so they’ll have to wait for another day. Luckily, we planted five a few weeks ago so they will be a replacement for the five we’re removing. The power lines run along the boundary fence and the neighbour has some huge trees that will have to come down one day soon. It will cost them dearly as there is no way they could remove them themselves. The trees in the background of the photo are the neighbours’. It pays to think well ahead when you start planting trees.

It's a beautiful tree. I'm sorry the power lines meant it needed to come down.

@JudyEv How do you take them down? Kinda...do you have required equipment to cut the trunk?

@JudyEv It's good you did. Our power company cuts the trees so they don't interfere with the lines. It gives the trees odd shapes.

If we don't take them down, the power company will but we'd be charged for the service.

I feel sad when trees are cut down. But this is a genuine reason and great thing is that you have planted few new ones as the replacement. That is thoughtful It must have been lot of muscle work there to bring down those trees. You deserve a good rest.

Vince has a chain-saw so he does the sawing and I haul away the branches. Sometimes I can keep up but mostly we finish off the hauling together.

@arunima25 Yes, it was productive. It will probably take another two days to do the others. We won't do any today.

@changjiangzhibin89 It has a slight smell of peppermint but is not related otherwise. It's just another of our trees.

It's good to see your name appearing again. Yes, four are eucalyptus trees and one is a peppermint. It's a shame they have to come down. We have planted quite a few trees over the years.

Once the trees get high enough to tangle in the power lines that is dangerous. Glad you were able to take yours down yourself but those trees of your neighbor certainly look high. Hope they don't want until they fall down and do damage.

@JudyEv hope they continue to remove the trees. At least the power company won't let them get away with it.

@JudyEv the folks in our neighborhood found that out when they came and cut them down. cutting down is free. it is 300 dollars to haul the logs away

Sorry, that tree was going to be a problem. Luckily here the majority of the power lines are underground. It is a good thing too, with the storms we seem to get.

Storms can make a mess of power lines and live wires on the ground are hugely hazardous too.

What a shame you had to cut down this beautiful tree, but I understand the problem. We had to cut a tall magnolia because it was too close to the house and with not enough deep roots.

@JudyEv The trees of the neighbours also look dangerous and I think they should also plan to take them down.

@LadyDuck They had some near the house which would have caused a lot of damage if they had fallen. Two or three of those closest to the house have been removed.

The neighbours' trees are three times the height of this one. And there are six or eight of them.

It would be nice not to need money to go shopping. Do you think Vince would feel up to coming shopping with us? That was a nice looking tree. It's a shame it had to come down but I understand it can't be allowed to grow into the electric wires. I hope you have a restful evening after all that work. I'm going back to sleep for a few more hours. Good night.

@JudyEv I wish YOU luck trying to convince the power company to do that. All our power lines here where I live are underground.

@moffittjc This particular offshoot only services two houses so there is no way they'll put it underground.

Why not cut only the branches for wood? They look so lovely. Are the fruit-bearing tree?

It's not a fruit-bearing tree and if we pruned it, we'd have to do it again in a few years and we're getting too old for such work. The branches aren't thick enough for firewood. We've cut up the trunk for the fire.

@JudyEv Trees too near the house are a bad idea. One of ours sent its roots into a drain and was likely to grow on up the waste pipe of the toilet.

@JudyEv That is nice that Vince had his wallet so you did not have to pay. I can see why you chopped the tree down because it is very tall. That must have been very tiring chopping down the two trees. I can see why you are waiting for the other 3. Very good idea to have replacements for the ones you are chopping down.
