The trees we planted 16 years ago

I’ve written about cutting down some trees that were getting too close to the power lines. No-one likes to think of trees being destroyed but, over the years, we have planted a lot of trees on our 18 acres. The photo shows our ‘avenue’ of four rows of trees that we planted when we first came here. There are probably 6 – 8 trees in each row. A few have died as they a bit closer together than they should be. You can just see part of the big shed in the background. When they were first planted, I would spray the leaves every few days with a mixture of white oil, garlic and chili to try to stop the roos from eating them. We also had barriers around the trees. Now, as you can see, the kangaroos welcome the shade. I was surprised to see one standing on tippy-toes and eating the leaves of one. I guess this is our legacy for the next people who come to live here.

Judy! I see some huge looking mice in your photos! Where's the cat? He's not doing his job! The trees look really nice.

If I had a cat that would take out these mice, I would be very worried!!

@JudyEv That's true... could you see waking up in the middle of the night with a cat that big curled up on your head... It might be a while before you could convince him to get off and let you go back to sleep. And his purring would feel like a badly tuned vehicle.

@DaddyEvil The cat would make a nice cushion at least.

That is how it should be. With every tree chopped down there should be replacements. You have done it. More power to you

Yes cutting trees is not a good thing to do. Yet if the tress are interfering with power lines, then it is something that is worrisome. It is also good that Kangaroos enjoy the shade of these trees. Have the pictures been taken on a cloudy and rainy day?

It was overcast but not rainy. The photos were taken with my little point and shoot.

Where do you get these elusive kangaroo trees to plant? The kangaroos probably learned to like the garlic & chili mixture. You’re a good steward of the land!

I've been talking so much about cutting trees down I thought I needed to redeem myself!

The roos love them. Sometimes a tree has to be cut. You have planted plenty to replace them.

There are big trees and they grow so well. Actually these trees are as "old" as my son. Just a little coincidence

It's funny when we come across something that is as old as we are - or as old as one of our kids.

The trees look nice Judy. I don't see the portion of shed unless it's on the two to photos, then maybe I can. I can't tell if I am or not.

In the top photos, to the left between two rows of trees is a grey patch. That is the shed. I've drawn a circle round it now.
