An enjoyable evening under the stars

Last night, we attended an open-air showing of the Australian film ‘Rams’ – a remake of the Icelandic film of the same name. We saw the latter several years ago at the International Film festival held in Bunbury, Western Australia. Sam Neill and Michael Caton had the lead roles and brought all their artistic skills to play convincing roles of two brothers in conflict. There were some very funny parts to the film but ‘our’ version didn’t lead to the brothers losing their lives after being reconciled. They estimated 400 attended the out-of-doors showing which was held at a winery. You can see part of the crowd in the top photo. The lower photo shows the picnic table we made being put to use again.

Love that picnic table . . . perfect for outings like this! I hope someday soon we can go to events like this . . . boy it's been a long time!

We do have a few restrictions on numbers but not many seem to take much notice of it at the moment as we've been free of the virus for so long.

@Marty1 I think there has been a case or two in Queensland but we have had no cases for weeks. We've been incredibly lucky but we've also all stuck to the rules.

@Marty1 Australia has been a bit late starting the vaccinations but it's happening now. I have had it yet.

The picnic table must be one that's easily taken apart and put together again? That must be a fun enjoyed by many since so large a group made it to the viewing.

The picnic table sits about 8" off the ground. The legs fold in under so it's easy to carry but you don't have to take it apart.

@JudyEv it's big enough to hold food but not to eat at, right? Here the term picnic table is used mostly when people can sit around it as they're usually to heavy to take anywhere and are, I'm guessing, about 5x3 feet.

@MarshaMusselman Maybe I've used the wrong term but this is tiny compared to what you're describing. It holds four glasses and holds several small containers of nibbles. You can see on the photo there isn't room for a lot of food.

There was a heap of kids all playing around on the lawn. They had a great time before the film even started.

It looks like a fun time. Last year when we were in the lockdown, and it was cold outside, our son hooked up a projector in his garage and had another couple and their little girl over for a socially distanced movie night. It was a bit warmer in the garage, plus they had all of that extra room for safety.

The film evening would have been a very good idea. We need that human interaction, don't we?

@JudyEv no outdoor film. But in the school of my daughter, they do that. Usually per level activity with parents, the last activity will be an outdoor film, like a picnic at the grounds of the school

It was a very social occasion. I think the winery would have made quite a bit of money from the evening.

@JudyEv No doubt. We all started to get a little complacent with our freedoms. It's going to be nice when this is all over and we can start enjoying even more freedoms.

Weatherwise, it would be a lottery in the UK I think. There is an organisation called 'Rural Cinemas' which hire out and/or run outdoor movies.

@Ronrybs No, there wouldn't have been much entertainment last year. Our big music festival, Fairbridge, was cancelled last year but is on again this year. There are a lot more local/national acts this year which is good in a way. Some of last year's entertainers got stuck over here when all the borders closed.

That's a lovely picnic table. Quite handy and useful for such ocassions. We used to enjoy our three night music concert which is held in open every year here in a management institute very close to our house. It is held for three nights in January each year to promote local artists. We used to carry our sheets, food and blanket every year to attend it. They had it on last Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the month. This year pandemic got it cancelled.

Musicians have been badly hit with the pandemic. A big music festival was cancelled last year but will be held again this year. It is held in April so we're looking forward to that. We take the caravan and camp at the site.

@JudyEv Especially those who survived by performing in public or clubs and bars. This festival was held and was virtual. It was no fun as the live one. And some people did make contributions to these musicians. The festival is always free and one can make the contributions in the donation box there.
