Tantrum Strikes with Blah! Blah! Blah!

When handling a student who does not want to study, it is common that he or she does not want to read sentences in English. They will not complete the sentences and keep on saying Blah! Blah! Blah! Do not panic! You just need to divert yourself and be entertained with this kind of rude student. You just need to fill in the blanks. How patient are you to be a clown in teaching kids? Can you handle this kind of young learner for half an hour or an hour? Image Credit: previews.123rf.com

No, I would not be very patient. I do not think I would make a good teacher.

A student should never disrespect their teacher, I can see why you would not tolerate that kind of behavior.

@rebelann I thought I cannot handle this kind of student. However, I sometimes snap if the student is shouting at me. It makes me feel disrespected and is not acceptable.

I can understand what you are pointing to. I must admit that I am not patient enough when it comes to rudeness. I am just keeping the job because I need their money.

I'd be patient but I'll make sure to draw the line and warn the student not to do it again.

@allen0187 I can do it lightly. I cannot give them a firm warning because it is not allowed in my company.

I am still a human being and sometimes snapped. I hope I can change my career path soon.

Hmm... maybe. It depends on whether I like the student or not. If I like them, then yes, I can put up with quite a bit of bad behavior. If I don't like or feel some connection to the student, then no, I won't be able to teach past the bad behavior.

Honestly, I am only stressed out when a student is shouting at me. If I can only kick them out for booking my classes online, I will do it.

@Shavkat And that's why you make a better teacher than I could. You have a lot more patience than I do.

I don't understand how a parent isn't around to make them behave. I'd be coming on my kids like a ton of bricks if they did this.

I agree. Some of these parents do not care when their kids studying online. At some point, they are also the ones who are rude.

Good approach to the problem - play the clown to make a kid learn. I never really dared this, fearing to be taken for a clown rather than a teacher. When it was one kid, I found playful ways to slowly make them learn English, letting them read song texts or jokes, and never helping in with translation too early. But imagine you're teaching a class, and there is one, or even more of such kids... When I was a student, I had to practice in a class of 10-year-olds with one problem kid. Luckily we were a group of 3, and we were warned. So one of us cared for that special child, while another held the lesson.

Oh, my. I cannot teach students in a group online. I turned down the offer before. I can handle a one on one class. I can be a clown at random. If I can sense that he or she is being rude by shouting at me, then I need to call his or her attention.

Well, I guess that happens with foreign students and does not respect you as their teacher. I hope they get punished for this behavior so that they will take your lessons seriously. I wonder how old are your students that they behave like that.

My students are ranging kids to professionals. Sometimes I am thinking it is all about their culture being rude.

I used to say I am not patient to teach other kids. Then I became temporary teacher for two years. Turn out, I do have patience. I couldn't beat up the students. I had to endure a lot.

I think I'd lose my cool rather quickly. I just don't have the ability to explain myself.

I agree. One thing that I learned dealing with these kids, I just do not look at the video while having classes with them. I might snap without any control of my bad feelings.

It was my first reaction before. Now, I just need to divert myself not to be stressed out. The reason is to keep this job and transfer my soft skills to others who want it.
