Mourning the Passing-Away of the Pizza Hut Detroit-Style Pizza

Maybe it'll come back, like McDonald's McRib. But yesterday, I discovered that my most-favorite Pizza Style was unavailable ... apparently I missed the "available while supplies last"-notice on the page https://www.pizzahut.com/c/content/detroit-style-pizza (or never saw the page). Until it comes back to Pizza Hut (I'm a regular customer, and don't have an income large enough to 'shop around'), I'll wait until they gather some more supplies ... not that I'm "boycotting them until," but I'll just order some 'regular old' (but still good) pizza every week-or-so ... I wonder why they call it 'Detroit style' ... is that where it first got popular?

@mythociate right now it is creamy cheesy spinach by a local pizza store.

@allen0187 I always used to order spinach (probably not as good as the creamy cheesy kind) because I heard it was full of iron, but then I found out that all the iron stays locked inside the leaf (again; just regular spinach, the creamy cheesy probably brings out the iron)

The privately owned pizza shops make rectangular pizzas with square pieces in the Detroit area, hence the name Detroit style. I did not know that chains got in on it also.

@Juliaacv Is there any Canadian dish that'd be worth crossing over there for? (Pizza or something else)

@RebeccasFarm My father is upstate New York born, so I prefer Speidies ... which I'm not sure if they've ever used (at least not by that name) on pizza (and I've never HEARD of Lupo's)

@mythociate Since my Fathers side is all Sicilian born, I prefer the old way of Sicilian home made pizza. But for regular pizza I like pepperoni.

Yeah. It's just a style, I guess, popularized in Detroit. Regions, for whatever reason, like to have a "style." Some are good. Some are okay. Some are fantastic. Some are downright awful ideas. As for Pizza Hut in general, it's usually not a place I eat pizza from.

I would ask "Why not?" but I think I know. It's like SUBWAY---they SAY "Eat Fresh!" but ALL their sandwich-ingredients are pre-cut (at least 'at the beginning of the day,' if not 'way back at the meat-factory before the shipping')

@porwest Oh, mine too ...them, or Jersey Mike's. It's not BAD, it's just ... "corporate," when there are local places that are just fine. Is that why you don't like Pizza Hut?

@mythociate Right. And by the way, Subway happens to be my go to when it comes to subs. I almost always get their club and prefer just vinegar and olive oil on it.
