A grocery store employee saves a runaway cart that had a child inside

Ben Mazur who is an employee at Schnucks grocery store in Alton Illinois was doing his job of collecting shopping carts at the parking lot when a driver at the parking lot managed to get his attention that an infant was inside a shopping cart that was traveling toward a danger zone. Ben sprinted toward the runaway shopping cart before it would have been hit oncoming traffic and saved the child from either being killed or seriously injured in a collision with an auto. What happened at the time of the runaway shopping cart was that the mother of the infant was placing her other children inside of her auto when the shopping cart started to run away from her auto onto a danger zone. Since the heroic act was caught on camera and went to social media, Ben is being praised as a hero. I am sure that the grocery store management will reward Ben for his actions to save a life of an infant by getting a larger salary or promotion. The mom of the child is eternally grateful for the act of heroism that Ben displayed in saving her child from a tragic end.

This reminds me of an incident when my daughter and I went to the supermarket. The employee getting the grocery carts from the parking lot outside the mall came in with a little girl in tow crying. She had wandered outside the mall while her parents were busy window shopping. I approached the little girl to ask for her name and that of her mom. She did not answer but held on to my hand still crying. I ushered her to the Customer Service counter to request the staff to page for the girl's parents with the mall public address system. I wanted to turn the girl over the the staff but she cried louder and held on tightly to my hand. At that time, my daughter whispered to me laughing that all eyes of other shoppers were on me and the girl. The girl really held on tightly to my hand still crying so I told her that we'd go together to look for her mom. As we started to walk, the girl's mom came smiling. Deep inside I was mad and wanted to scold the girl's mother for not keeping an eye on her little girl but I restrained myself from doing it. It was enough for me that the girl was reunited with her mom. Her dad was also following the mom; both were busy window-shopping when the girl strayed out of the mall.

Surely the alert employee deserves some kind of reward. I'm sure the mother learned her lesson not to do that again.

@sunrisefan ah yes sorry I thought I was commenting on the original discussion but anyway you did the right thing, I would be furious at the mother myself if that happened to me. I often call the attention of informal settlers in our street ( we are on the main road) who walk without holding their children and just concerned with the smallest she is carrying, sometimes I even get a sharp stare back

@louievill Yes, good thing the employee getting the trolleys was concerned that the little girl might be ran over by vehicles so he took the inside the mall.

I agree with you since it would break the mom's heart to lose her child in an accident at a grocery store.

@Deepizzaguy That was nice of the driver to let Ben know what was happening. I would say that the driver that alerted Ben to what was going on should get a medal too. I am glad the baby was saved. Shopping carts do get away from us. What about the driver that told Ben about what was happening?

You are right about the driver getting some kind of reward for doing his part to get Ben's attention to save the child inside of the cart.

@Deepizzaguy It started with the driver seeing what was going on and Ben does not deserve all the credit here. I think they are forgetting about what the driver did. It all started with him.

Sounds like to me, the mom should've put the infant in the car, first. But, no harm was done.

That poor mother. It can be really difficult dealing with 2 or 3 small children and trying to shop.

This store employee was on his toes! So many things come up when you work at a grocery store. I worked in a grocery store and we helped so many people who fell ill, got lost, etc.
