Wednesday's Happenings: Eggs are Pipping and More Rain

Wednesday is here and we are both still up here as we have gotten into the habit of staying up late or early (however you wish to view this) watching television.
The day is starting out with my check on the eggs in the incubator. I only put in 14 eggs for the first run because I knew that the first time is trial and error. So far so good. We have maintained both temperature and humidity for the 21 days and they have now started pipping. We should see some chicks emerging later today.
It is supposed to rain most of the day with thunderstorms starting at 9 am. I am hoping that it holds off a couple more hours or at least until 10 am so that I can get the outside chores and feedings done for the chickens and dogs. I may have to move the big dog to his kennel on the back porch. He feels much safer there.
I hope everyone has a nice day with sunshine! It was cloudy all day today and it looks like we will have a good bit of rain for the next two days, as well. Yuck!

@TheHorse He doesn't like the noise, continual chirpping. And he's being a good sport. He has lived through me raising parrots of all sizes and mini dachshunds in the past. We made a deal when we moved here. No more breeding parrots and I got rid of all the breeders. Just got rid of my final bird, an amazing yellow nape amazon. And no more animals. I wasn't happy about it but went along with it. Then he talked down a kitten out of tree. We ended up with 20+ cats. Stray dogs and abandoned hunting dogs started coming out of the woods one by one, then in twos. We had a litter of pups left on our back porch and I laughed with each incident that he really jinxed himself. We ended up with some awesome pets through the years with all the strays. Now just have one stray and the mixed german shepard we adopted. After the drop offs settled down I meekly asked if I could have chickens. He thought I'd never go that route. We got chickens :) and five years later build a double size 2nd coop. I win!!

How often do you turn the eggs or does the incubator do that for you?
It's cloudy here but not supposed to rain. We have a freeze warning right now. *sigh*

@DaddyEvil Same here! Too much rain. And that is no fair!! We only have two days of sunshine!! At least with the sun it won't feel as cold as it would with drizzle.

@kareng No thanks on the rain. That's all we've been getting lately. We finally have three sunny days. Now, if it just wasn't chilly. *sigh*

That would be too much to ask for! I really don't need to add 14 to my flock but oh well!! Actually, I'll be happy with what I get. We have four now and one making its way very, very slowly. This egg was one of the first to pip and taking the longest to get out! It's still breathing so okay. My hub is about to have a heart attact over this baby taking so long. I keep telling him they don't just pop out--it takes time and some longer than others.

@moffittjc I intervened yesterday. I started before we left to run errands and finished later when we got home. Very tedious! This one has earned the name Slow Poke! Slow Poke is still breathing but I don't expect him/her to make it through the night. It's just not progressing in the right direction.

@kareng Aww, that's so sad. I really hope Slow Poke has the will to live, although I know the outcome in these situations usually isn't good.

We had our bout with storms so bad State became disaster area. Everyone cleaning up, got gofundme going too. Saint Medardus help you have pleasant safe weather, amen.

@wolfgirl569 It's starting to get dark so I suppose the afternoon will be a wash out! At least we got through the morning and things done outside. I'm fixing to go head back out there and get eggs.

It's fun and my hubby has surprised me at how anxious he is. Every 30 minutes he asks if another one hatched. Why is it taking so long? I keep telling him to be patient and let nature take its course!!
We have four out now and another about to make its entrance into the world. This chick was one of the first to pip and is taking its own sweet time!!

It was cloudy here this morning. Was supposed to start raining around 10 am but it waited until closer to noon. I got what needed doing outside done so we are good. Now it looks like the sun is trying to break through but will more thunderstorms this afternoon, it just may need to go take a nap!

@kareng we haven't had a thunderstorm yet which makes me very nervous. When they start in Mid April for us they last until june.

Watch out or they’ll come out singing “Midnight Train to Georgia.” Oops, wrong “pipping” there.

Haha, on the pipping. Good ole Glady's!!
We have had some rain this morning and more on the way. The sun is trying to peek out but I am afraid it is a lost cause. Wow on temperature. Our low is supposed to be 41 so the heater will be going on! It will feel colder with the dampness from the rain. Thursday and Friday are supposed to be sunshine all day; I'm ready!!
