Looks Like A Nice Bonus This Month

The way our pay works where I work is, we are paid a base hourly rate. We are also paid a commission on our sales profits. And on top of that, we also get performance based bonuses.
The bread and butter is always the commission. But those performance bonuses can add up nicely as well in a good month.
Essentially we get a $150 for making budget for the month. If we make over $100,000 we get another $300. And in addition to that we get $25 for each $1000 over budget.
Looks like we will close out at around $110,000 this month, and budget was $90,000. So, if all goes well that should be a bonus of about $950. Not bad for a little extra cash in a good month.
Looking forward to it.

@1creekgirl The best way, in my opinion, to handle money you don't expect. I always try to save some for another day, and of course, earn a fair amount on it while I wait to find something else to do with it.

Most jobs I have worked did not offer bonuses of any kind. So, it is always a nice little extra incentive when you can get one. We did have one at Kraft Foods which was an annual one and was based on an earned percentage taking into account several different factors that determined the percent of your annual salary.
We also get a Christmas bonus, but it's usually a couple hundred bucks. Still nice to have no matter the amount.

I spent my entire career working in municipal government, where bonuses didn't exist, so I never knew what it was like to get one. However, I am now working in the private sector, and in the six months I have been in that field I have received 6 or 7 nice bonuses. What a great feeling to be rewarded for your hard work! And I've been missing out on this for over 30 years!
Congrats on blowing past your budget. Those bonuses you will bring home will be very nice. Just think of all the nice cookouts you can host with that money! lol

@porwest You had everything right but the great pay part. Government workers get paid diddly-squat, because public leaders say they make up for it with the generous benefit packages. I guess I can't complain too much since I'll be collecting a lifelong pension soon.

@moffittjc That is what I am saying, though. You HAVE to add up the bennies over the course of your lifetime and count that in the equation. If I make $20 an hour with bennies for 20 years I collect around $832,000. If you collect roughly $10 an hour (or half) over a lifetime (let's say 20 working years and 30 retired years....and this is all VERY rough math of course) you collect $1.04 million. The benefit is in the lifetime benefit, not the upfront pay.
I am not complaining, by the way, that you get it. You still earned it.

@kareng That has long been a problem I think companies miss when it comes to inside sales. If all you do is give someone a salary, they are less likely to care if they get a sale or not. I think companies miss out on some opportunities by not offering at least a little incentive to their inside sales teams.

We get incentives but nothing like that. This weekend we get an additional discount for anything purchased that's not food. We also have points banked up from which we can order gift cards. We just have to pay the taxes.

@MarshaMusselman I am not complaining, mostly. I have always said. If I am paying taxes I am doing something right. If you get money back it means you aren't really making any. lol

That’s a nice bonus. Hope you get it. My mom works in a company as a QA Analyst, and she is lucky that every year the company gives her a bonus. And it’s thousands of dollars. After taxes, it’s somewhere in the 10k-20k range.

@porwest Your $1075 is after tax or gross? My mom's was in the $13k range after taxes. Wonder how much that would be gross.

@lovebuglena The $1075 is before taxes, or $1075 gross. Not sure what net will be after taxes, but I know they tax the crap out of my commissions and bonuses. They take out roughly 40%.

Oh. I will definitely get it. And turns out the bonus will actually be $1075. Woot-woot! Now we just have to wait and see what April brings. Onward and upward.
As for your Mom, that would be a sweet bonus. Holy smokes. I bet they tax the hell out of it though. But even with my commissions and bonuses they get taxed to the hilt as well because they calculate them as though that's what you would make each month for a year.

You would know or not whether you are good at selling. It sounds like you are and that is good. I used to think I was and then realized I was not that good. I got lucky or had a certain clientele and then lost a lot of them because they left where I was selling.

@porwest Please correct me if I sound wrong here ....
So you mean to say -- You are presuming based on Commission you will receive next month... Ah then this is still a commission, so it might not come next month or may be you will get big amount next month This actually worries me...
But I liked your last line That what I will also do... I put it in investment account / Saving account

Well, in this instance I did not save anything...yet. This is just what I expect to receive on top of my regular commission check which will be paid on the 15th of next month for the work I did this month. But you can bet the majority of all of it will be put toward savings or investment.

It is. In fact, the performance bonuses were initially introduced by me as an incentive for all of us to work not only toward an individual performance goal, but toward the entire branch's. For example, a call comes in and it is not my customer. So, I still take the call and get the customer taken care of, but I am not paid any commission on that call or that order. If I have more of an incentive to take care of that customer, and even to upsell him, I am more likely to do that if there is a little something in it for me.
It is working.

@porwest I need all the extra cash I can get my hands on. I'd rather have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Money is never enough for me mentally so I am going to do the best to ensure that my minimum living standard had been met before I start to invest more. Right now it is just a portion of whatever saving that I have.
