I come from a military family. Growing up there were pressures as a teenager to go into the military. I was very happy with the idea until the military recruiters pushed me too far. They were always coming to see me after school to tell me more about the army, or navy, or marines. I knew everything because of my background growing up, but they kept pushing me. Finally I decided that the military was not for me and I made some other choices in life. My family was not happy with the decision at first, but now that I am grown up and sucessful on my own they are ok with my decision. In light of recent events with respect to the war they are also glad I didn't go because they knew I would ake a career out of it.

My career choice didn't work out, I wanted to be a pro wrestler, my parents helped by sending me to a high school where I got some wrestling training but in the early 80's it just wasn't easy to get into pro wrestling unless you knew somebody. So anywayz dad offered me a job in the family business and I've been working here ever since 20plus years

I chose my own career. My parents really had no opinion on the issue, it has always been my decision. I found out recently that my grandfather on my fathers side was in the same profession I am, although a different discipline. I don't know if career aspirations can run in families when they don't really know each other, but I always liked technical engineer-y stuff, that's why I chose my career.

well i think when it comes to career we have to choose it for ourselfs, our parents will advice us all the possiblitys in all the different careers. they do guide us to a better career and also in the feild of our intrest.. no parent wants his child to get drowned..if he wants to be then he would never send his child to school..
well i wanted to be a software engineer and i am an software engineer, yes it is my dream career but i'm stil in initial stages so i cant say tat i fulfilled my dream..all i can say is tat i build my career, my parents are jst adivicers

my mom always wanted me to be a doctor or scientist or mathematician, but i was never really interested in that. i dont have a career yet, but my intended career is actually going to be in the field of human rights and humanitarian affairs which is what my mom works in now...so i didnt follow what she wanted me to be, but i followed her footsteps haha.

My father in particular. But now, I am starting out a new career for myself that I've always wanted but never had the oppurtunity to pursue. I finally have the chance to practice that profession the nightingale way.
I believe that no matter how persuasive your parents are, the decision is still yours. Made that decision and stood by it. Otherwise, improvise.

I chose my career when I was 14 years old. My mother was a scretary and she was my idol. I had to be the same but better. I have never been sorry for my choice. It took me around the world several times and I have lived in or seen over 20 countries. However, I must add that my mother did not agree with my choice of working for the government and leaving home. She wanted to keep me under her thumb and I would have no part of that.

i am still at school, but in future i would never like to let my parents decide where i should work... It is your personal right to decide on future ! I believe that people who have a planned life by somebody else end up being very frustrated and unhappy with their life !
