The middle age are also known as the medieval perod. the period was dominated by Christian theology and characterized by initial decline of science and its rise again much later there are two phase within this period And they are
1. the dark age (450 to 800 AD)
2. The Renaissance ( 9th to 15th century AD)
this is the first part of the middle Age in Europe as a result of constant in invasion by Barbaran tribes (the tribe outside the Roman empire) civilization which has flourished under the rule of the Roman empire came to a standstill. development in learning artchitecture, science and art slowed down or stopped altogether. Life also became unsafe as a result of the many war among the petty kingdom within the empire. A kind of 'darkness' covered life in Europe. For this reason, the period from about AD450 to 800 is something called 'Dark Ages'( you might be interested to know that this was a period when the old kingdom of Ghana reached the peak of its civilization)
All through the Middle Ages, there was only one Christian church ( Roman Catholic) in Western Europe. It became a symbol of unity, such that the unity Christian Word was call 'Christiandom; during the Dark age the father of the church show little interest in knowledge of nature for it is own sake. They believe that holding discussion on the nature and position of the Earth will not help them in their hope of life to come.(Damper:1989) therefore the desire and the power to study nature with an open mind gradually pass away. From the Christian perspective knowledge of nature was value only as a means of edification or as an illustration of the passage of scripture people soon lost the ability to criticize and believe anything particularly if it was in accordance with the scripture for example, a dictum of Aristotle , ' says everything that move is moved by something else Thomas Aquinas one of the father of the church used the statement as evident that God must exist since he is an unmoved mover.Aristotle's cosmology was the dominant basis of science in the Dark Ages and the scholastic period-the period of Arab influences (The New Encyclopedia Britannica 1995). He believe d that heavenly bodies influence human destinies.(Did you want more)

The Middle Ages must have been a very interesting time. I think it was about this time when printing was invented and more people started to read and learn about the world.
