The Pelicans Are Still Here....

Or at least two of them are still here! On our trip to Baton Rouge the other day to take care of mom's banking issues, we were a little early for the bank appointment after times got shifted to later in the day. My hubby had alreadty picked up his table saw and also stopped to pick up a quick bite to eat. I suggested that we stop by the lake behind the State Capital building. It is a beautiful area with walking paths, ducks and in the winter time white pelicans! I didn't think about the pelicans until we drove up and I saw two swimming in the lake. I checked the rest of the lake area that I could view and did not see any more pelicans. They have either already migrated back up north or possibly at the City Park Lake or the LSU lakes. I used to work right across the street from the lake where the pelicans are in the photograph. It was my first job with the State of Louisiana in the Buildings and Grounds Department. I worked in the purchasing department. It was only two of us and we stayed busy ordering all the supplies for the grounds and carpenter shops. Photo is of the two white pelicans. It would be cool if they decide to make Baton Rogue their home base! Only time will tell. Photo Credit: © 2021 Karen Gros, All rights reserved

I love pelicans and hope they settle down there. We have so many who stop by for feeding in Florida.

They are so cool to see and very unique. I used to go look at them on breaks and at lunch while working at LSU.

Pelicans are such lovely birds. They always remind me of flying boats and vice versa.

@kareng These look like they're dancing but they're all watching a fisherman throw them some fish.

I have been able to enjoy them more than most since I worked across the street from them in downtown Baton Rogue and then when I worked at LSU got to see them every morning and afternoon on way to and from work.

They are! It always amazed me at how they found the warmest coves to flock in during the winter!

Thank you for this picture. I saw a couple of birds flying through the sky a couple of days ago. The only thing I knew about them was that they weren't seagulls. They were pelicans from what I see in your picture. I'm glad you had a good day in the park.

You are welcome! I have been able to observe these beauties over the past 30 years. They usually leave town in March or early April so it was a surprise to see any of them at all.

I've never seen a white pelican. We watch the pelicans all the time at the webcam from Robbie's in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. They get to be so numerous that the people can hardly feed the tarpon.
