Instrumentally Yours

When I was a kid my parents (I think more so my dad) wanted me to learn to play the piano. My grandma had a piano. I don't think anyone in the family actually played. Not from what I remember, anyway. Maybe it was purchased in the hopes someone would take lessons. My great step uncle & a great aunt played, but they didn't live with us & had their own pianos. My cousin latter learned to play. I was never interested in this. As much as I love music, I never considered playing an instrument. Which is why I dreaded my lessons. I went to them once a week for three years. After that time my instructor moved out of the area & fortunately, my parents didn't insist I pursue it. I played ok, but, nothing that would win awards & I certainly couldn't have made a career out of it. Even if I had continued. It didn't inspire me. I had no passion for it. I didn't have any real talent with it. Someone had said that I would regret it if I stopped. I never did. I appreciate those who can play the piano well, it just wasn't right for me. Do you play an instrument or did you ever want to learn?

I come from a very artistic family in that both sides, grandparents, parents and my brother can all play multiple instruments and paint and draw. Then there is me who wanted to play but never got the hang of it. As for drawing I struggle making a straight line I'd say my brother is the most gifted of all as he can listen to a song, pick up most any instrument and play it back to you. Bless his heart how he tried to teach me guitar, piano, bass, drums when we were younger.

@Dena91 I joke that I can't draw a decent stick figure. I don't want to assume, but is your talent with writing? That's mine. I also realized I also do pretty well with nature photography. It's just on my phone. It comes out decently. I rarely took pictures before. Then I started volunteering at the shelter & eventually became the one to take photos of the kitties & make the observations. It just blossomed from there.

@GypsyButterfly I have always loved photography so I guess that is where my talent lies. During the summer break when I was in junior high school I took photography lessons and learned to develop my own film. I loved that. There isn't too many days I don't take a picture on my phone, like you of our kitty and of nature

@Dena91 When I was in 8th grade I took photography. I also learned how to develop film. Something I've long since forgotten. I think it's part of what gave me a love for black & white photos. It was another one of those things I didn't feel I had the talent for & definitely not the patience. The next semester I took AV & really enjoyed that.

Of course, we cannot insist on something that we do not like. I always wanted to learn to play violin

@Shxrubia Sometimes parents have expectations for us. I don't know why they didn't have me continue after the instructor moved. I'm just glad they didn't. Have you considered taking up the violin? Some people don't learn an instrument until they're an adult.
