Feeling Alive

It's different for each of us what causes that in us. For me it's my volunteering. It makes me passionate, enthusiastic, determined, inspired, uplifted, enriched. To name a few. It's the main bright spot in my life. There's been a lot of ups & downs for awhile (cancer diagnosis & not being able to work, for the most part) Being able to volunteer has made a big difference. I can go in rather blah & then leave with my spirits picked up. Some of the staff & some other volunteers have thanked me for what I do. It's nice to know that my being there isn't just beneficial for me, but, also the kitties I socialize with. I've been doing that going on five years. In the past eight months I've also started helping seniors & those in hospice. Who or what is it that makes you feel alive?

Nothing more pleasurable than be in the company of children and other people. Many things actually make me feel alive and grateful such as the emergence of the first rays of sunlight each morning and the chirping of the birds. But I'd generally love to see people smiling and happy.

@GypsyButterfly That love emanates from the heart. It is intrinsic in one's being. Remember, one cannot love if it doesn't come from the heart. Spread the love.

@eileenleyva I love for people to smile & be happy. That's why I do my best to be kind & sometimes humorous.

I consider volunteering as a noble act that only few people can do. I am so glad that you have the opportunity to do that.

@cherigucchi Some areas may have less opportunities than others. But, there's always something that someone can do to help. If they want to. That's the operative word. Want.

Having my kitties to care for. Being able to pet them and hear their (or feel) their purr.

@kaylachan How many do you have? I've mainly had kitties in my life. Right now, besides two cats, I also have two small senior dogs. All adopted from the shelter where I volunteer. They provide such comfort & support.

In short, realizations. Or maybe it's that little burst of dopamine that comes with 'pulling off a really tricky trick' (or with 'helping others learn that really tricky trick and watching them pull it off'). Sort of like at the end of a really good SHERLOCK or Matlock or ... hmmm, have you ever seen Sherlock & Matlock in the same room? If not, you ever suspect they're the same person?

@mythociate Besides both of their names ending in, lock, no. Speaking of Sherlock. There's a lot of fans, including myself, that would like a 5th series. Benedict Cumberbatch & Martin Freeman are both so busy with other projects.

That is wonderful that you are able to volunteer and that you and others get satisfaction from it. I helped with a friends terminal cancer diagnosis, taking them to the doctors, being with them through treatments until he passed. I also helped with my father in law when he got cancer. He also developed dementia and for most of 2019/20 I stayed with in laws helping mom in law while he was under hospice care. The folks at our local hospice were so sweet and caring. We were blessed to meet them and work with them. After father in law passed last summer Mike stayed with his mom at nights to give me a break. Now she is able to stay by herself, though Mike's sister will go over and spend one night a week with her. It is nice to have our lives back to just being together at home. I enjoy church, teaching the ladies Sunday school class.

@Dena91 I'm sure your friend & father in law appreciated your support. With my volunteering, I feel like I'm living my higher purpose.

I think my relationship with God makes.me alive because without Him I don't think I could handle life.
