In my city, I noticed that some senior citizens are having the first shot. Others are still in doubt about the side effects of it, as my lovely mom. I can feel worrisome on her face. I haven't received any messages from the local barangay unit (LGU) when is her schedule for the shot. Either way, she cannot decide fully at this point in time.
Are your senior citizens feeling worrisome?

There was initial hesitation. But then few doctors in my family worked proactively to spread the awareness. Today all the seniors in my family, friends and relatives are vaccinated with two doses. Whoever was eligible in the age criteria so far has got shots. Now it opens for all above 18 in our country on 1 May.

Did you had your doses of vaccine?
I would be eligible from 1st May but I would not rush in.
I think there could be a vaccine rush in May and June.
I would prefer a slightly later date once the Covid situation stabilizes further.
By the way, how are the things in your family?
I think that you were away from Mylot for a few days?

@Shavkat The side effects of virus is nothing compared to what this deadly virus does. So it's worth taking a vaccine. I hope that your mom would be ready for it soon.

@Shavkat I hope that they should while it is given for free. It costs a lot when you pay it from your own pocket.

May be the reactions were more in Europe. Plus the Indian cases have not been very high % wise.
Still there could have been some cases with serious side effects.

Tell mom, nothing to be worried about. I am a senior citizen with high blood pressure, thyroid and fibromyalgia, I have taken Astra Zeneca and I am fine. I had chills, fever and body ache for about four days and that's about it.
Good luck.

@Shavkat I was told to take tylenol. Actually, the nurse that gives you the injection advises you to take tylenol if you get any chills or fever, your mom will be alrite because they don't just give you the vaccine and send you home right away. After the vaccination, the person has to wait for 15 minutes to see if there are any immediate side effects, once you're ok then only you are allowed to go home.

@tiwari5485 I heard about that, too. It needs to stay for a while in the vaccination area before going back home. My younger sister advised my mom to take paracetamol after being vaccinated for the first shot.

I had my first dose on 3rd April as here it's been given to the people above age of 45 years and next dose is due in mid of may. Yes there is misconception among the people about these vaccines . People should take the dose so that we all may get rid of this deadly virus.

@wolfgirl569 Honestly, we do prefer Pfizer. But the city cannot afford it.

I don't really know whether the senior citizens in the country are also injected with Astrazeneca or not, because previously we were injected with Sinovac and senior citizens are still safe from excessive negative effects, I hope your mother will get well soon

My father has had two doses of Covaxin. Some other folks that I know have got one or two doses and so far I have not heard of serious side effects.
A few folks had fever for a few days or some pain but nothing serious.
I did heard of some serious post-vaccination incidents but they have been quite rare.

The export model consists of some % as Free grants and rest as paid. I do not have full details but I think the prices are controlled under an International Covax Program.

Others feel it too. But I think we need to tell them to look at the numbers. The percentage of those who experienced side effects is very small.

Some do fine with the shot others have symptoms but the symptoms shouldn't be as bad as actually getting covid-19. You're mom hasn't had that yet I hope? If not the symptoms or side effects should be minimal and maybe last a day. Where if she doesn't get it the virus could impact her for weeks.
I don't know how the vaccine is there in comparison to ours or what's in Europe. Have there been bad responses from the vaccine there at all?

I am confident that she doesn't have the symptoms of covid-19 since she never went out during the lockdown and up to this day. By your kind words, I guess it is fine to have the shots. It is a big issue to having vaccines here lately. Most of them are refusing to have Sinovac vaccines.

@MarshaMusselman They are refusing Sinovac because it is manufactured in China. You know what I mean. I think she is fine with Asta Zeneca.

@Shavkat how much of the population has had that one already? Did the staff working in hospitals get it first?

My parent are having separate views. Dad voluntarily and eagerly took both doses. Mom is like "what will change, There are idiots out there not following social distancing norms. and there are cases where people are getting affected after both doses as well."
I am not sure if this is effective yet. but Yes when it comes to elderly, They should take the vaccine. Even if there is a slim chance to get rid of the pandemic. they should opt it
