A Blue Surprise of Robin Eggs

Another happy day today. Just got back form errands. Saw a few birds flying out of the trees. I knew there were nests in the yard, but so far nothing.... until today. I climbed between the holly bushes and the house, almost on the ground, looking for a nest. And there it was. A nest full of three gorgeous robin eggs in the holly bush. I do not recommend doing this. The birds can attack in defense, or they can abandon the nest. But I was determined, as I am every year. Look at those blue eggs. They are gorgeous. And are about the size of a grape. Robin babies soon.

Those beautiful blue eggs - I'm so happy the families are starting again in your garden!! The bird lady knows exactly how to view the nest/eggs without interrupting anything .

Yes, this is where the phrase robin egg blue comes from. It truly is a real color. Yes, I have had bluebird eggs for over ten years in the backyard. They are a lighter blue. Hoping they return soon.

@DocAndersen I have never seen a raven's nest. How cool. They might not be very friendly with the camera getting close.

@CarolDM There is a small local bird that lays eggs very similar in color. We call the bird "codirosso" it is dark grey with a red tail.

@CarolDM I'm sure there must be at least one nest here too - at least there are some busy-looking adults around - but I haven't spotted anything yet.
