Kitty woke me at 4 AM with a live present.

Kitty was meowing in my dreams, and there was a peeping sound as well. I woke up and saw that kitty was offering me a baby something, perhaps a squirrel. It was about two-and-a-half inches long and curled up like a fetus. I thanked her for feeding me and told her (honestly) that I don't eat newborn squirrels. I turned my back, and there was no more peeping. Kitty had eaten half of the baby squirrel. I put the other half in her outside food bowl and she gobbled it up as well a few minutes later. I had gone to bed at about 10 PM, so I was good for a bit of internet action before going back to bed. Within 15 minutes, Kitty had brought home another newborn, this one no longer peeping. She laid it at my feet. Again, I thanked her, and again I placed it in her outside food bowl. It was gone when I when to work this morning. Do your fur friends ever bring home presents for you?

@Tina30219 Right now she is deciding whether to investigate the noises outside or to settle in for another nap.

Oh my! That's not a nice way to be awakened! Your story reminds me of the time my cat woke me up by jumping on the bed with half of a bloody lizard. I still feel slightly traumatized to recall it.

At least your kitty understood the importance of "sharing."

The two dogs we have now are good doggies. We did have a stray that loved to hunt. He would bring rabbits and birds often.

You told me last night that you were an omnivore... Why didn't you have breakfast with Kitty?

The newborn squirrels didn't have much meat on them. And it would be too much work to fatten them up before I added carrots, celery and onion.

@TheHorse If they were that little, then the bones would barely give you a crunch when you chewed them.

@DaddyEvil I never eat anything if I don't know what it is. Well, I probably have, but at least I didn't know it.

We had a stray cat that left the entrails of a rat on our doorstep every morning for over a week. In the end, we took her in.

They would, most of the times. I am grateful, really but I keep telling them not to bring anymore back. I don't think they care. They want to feed this hooman so she would feed them more delicious cat food back.

All my cats are strictly indoor, but they do love to share their toys with me. My cat Chilly loves to roll his toys up like a burrito.

@TheHorse Yep. We have a towel he likes to sleep on. When he's playful enough, he'll roll it up with his toys in it.

That's one of the disadvantages with horses I suppose, they don't bring you newborn squirrels for breakfast. They do try to dig up their outdoor enclosures though, I think they're hunting for roots. I could maybe make money by renting them out as diggers, they don't pollute like a those of steel and iron.

Gross! The population of squirrels in your neighborhood has been drastically reduced! When we had dogs, the chipmunk population was at risk. We had a dog that brought us a baby rabbit one time...another one brought home a chipmunk. Poor little guys.

i can see you calmly explaining to the kitty, normally I don't eat baby squirrels but thank you! one time, when we lived closer to town, my dog managed to get a pizza box through the dog door. The only way for that box to go through that dog door, was at an angle. The labs don't often bring things to us. But I find stuff that was misplaced in the back yard all the time!!!!!

Labs are smarter than they pretend to be. Being loving and being smart are not mutually exclusive.

Kitty loves bringing you gifts, how sweet. She is beautiful. Our kitties were/are indoor so no gifts other than their toys. When I was a kid we had an indoor kitty that caught a mouse in the house and put it in the bathtub until we got home then insisted on us following him in there to see what a good boy he was.
