Humour from the filing cabinet

While going through our files, I found a ‘Humorous’ folder and came across these beauties. I wonder if you agree with the ‘gender’ attached to these items: HAMMER: Male, because in the last 5000 years, they’ve hardly changed at all, and are occasionally handy to have around. EGG TIMERS: Female, because, over time, all the weight shifts to the bottom. TRAINS: Male, because they use the same old lines for picking up people. SPONGES: Female, because they are soft, squeezable and retain water. Can you think of any others? The photo is of the back of our house. We have a pocket-handkerchief for a backyard. The shadow of a fence you can see is the back boundary.

Those are funny. You'll be living very close to other people, I hope all of them will be very nice to live around.

You never know, some people in their mid to late 50s love parties and invite their children and grand children. I hope that won't happen in your new neighborhood.

@rebelann Haha - it might be us doing the inviting - except that the 'children' are miles away and there are no grandchildren. But we do have friends who like to party!

Yes, that will be the test of whether we like it or not. At least they're all over 55 so hopefully no wild parties! lol

I had a collection of cartoons, but managed to delete it using my super computer skills. I have a small garden and it still looks like a jungle!

Hopefully, ours will look like a jungle one day. There are worse things it could look like.

@Ronrybs When we lived in Ireland, you could just about see the grass growing. Our new patch of lawn will be the size of a dinner table!! lol We'll be able to cut it with a pair of scissors.

@JudyEv We've had so much rain, just lately. The garden already needs cutting again and Mr Hissy's house has almost disappeared in grass!

It's a small area but we'll try to make it comfortable and screen it off from the street a bit more.

Looks like a nice place to put some chairs and sit outside awhile, Those gave me a chuckle and I agree. I heard this one before Colander male because liquid just goes through the holes like when speaking to a man and what you say goes in one ear and out the other,

Those are funny Judy. And very accurate. I’ll have to try and think of some to add to your collection. Your backyard may seem small, but it does seem roomy yet cozy from the photo.

'Cozy' is a positive term for it. It sounds like a real estate term for a tiny place. lol

@JudyEv It is funny how the real estate industry comes up with cute terminology to describe housing that is small, old or in need of repair. I guess you always need to put a positive spin on things.

Those are funny and you made me laugh. I am thinking and this comes to my mind Tire Male, because it goes bald over the years. We have gender for objects in Italian, French and Spanish. All those you mentioned are male except sponges ("La spugna" in Italian and it's female).

That's a nice patio. It's going to be a lot less maintenance for your husband. I can't think of any "funnies" right now. Yours deserve a rim shot: Ba dum shhhh. Good ones!

That made me laugh In Hindi, objects and verbs too have genders and that makes it quite challenging at times. You have a lovely backyard. It would nice to have few chairs there to sit out

We have some chairs and a small table which will go well there. When I learnt French, the nouns all had genders too and the verbs had to 'agree'.

@JudyEv It would be a lovely sit out. Am sure that you and Vince will enjoy it. A small place is easier to maintain. My daughter had French in her High school and she often mentioned that drawing a parallel between Hindi and French grammar.

@JudyEv I was thinking the same thing... No big barbecues or yard parties anymore. Uhm... unless you still have some of your yard tools and can cut through several of the fences. Vince can threaten the neighbors while you run around adding potted plants to all the yards.

Ha, ha. They are good ones. How about: RULER: Female, because a male only thinks that he is one, and he thinks that he has somebody's measure, when he never does. The female is always the real ruler.
