As the land for residential purpose is decreasing day by day (at least in populated countries like India) there is shortage of houses for dwelling. Therefore, few years ago vertical expansion of houses started, which gave rise to multi storied flat system. There are many high rising buildings in metropolitan cities of India, which have high rising buildings and people live in flats. The problems is not so in the countries which have enough residential land. There are independent houses and people live in those houses. Each system has its advantages and disadvantages.
Given the choice would you prefer to stay in an independent house or would you prefer a multi storied flat system?

That's becoming a norm here. Glad that I stay in a low rise apartment complex and have a penthouse apartment on second floor.
And I read that many cities like Delhi and NCR fall in earthquake belt. So high rise without proper technique used for earthquake safety can be risky. But still builders go ahead.

@arunima25 Yes, you are right that they sell the properties at exorbitant rates and they should have the moral responsibility that they provide all the basic services to the residents and ensure their safety in all respect.

It is good to hear that you have been staying in a penthouse apartment on second floor, which apparently have huge area to accommodate your family.
Yes, many areas in Delhi and NCR fall in earthquake belt and risk factor is always there. However, due to shortage of space and ever increasing population, more and more flats in high rise buildings are being constructed.

@dpk262006 I know that is the need. But I am not against the construction of high-rise building. I just want them to take all necessary safety techniques and precautions so that the lives of people living there are not at risk. These builders charge a bomb for the properties and have every moral and professional responsibility to ensure safety.

It is good to hear that you live an independent house and so live others in your area. I do not think any flat system would be prevailing at your place. As the population may be less and availability of land may be more.

You want to live or you already live in a multi stories flat? I am not clear if flats have more spaces, more flats are built here in India, in less space and every inch of space is used for flats. They normally have small balcony and very less open area.

I'm really a very private person and the skyscrapers don't suit me. I lived in these buildings and they certainly have pros, especially for the younger and working population.
I see how metropolises have to adjust and there are many great and beautiful solutions. I'm not familiar with India but I saw some Singapore buildings and they have astonishing solutions.
Have a great day!

It is interesting to know that you do not like to live in skyscrapers, as those are not your cup of tea. No doubt that there are some pros if you are living in a flat system, but in my view there are more cons than pros.
Singapore is a smaller country than India and they have developed like anything for the past few years.
Have you been to Singapore?
Have a nice day!

I understand that you live in an independent house? It is good to hear that at your place the buildings have only five floors and there are no high rise in your immediate vicinity.

Yes, independent houses are better than flats. Independent houses have open space and one does not need to adjust with others, which is the case in the flat system. In flat system, you may not know who is your next neighbor but where there are independent houses, you know who your neighbor is.

It means that you have experience of living in a flat and in an independent house. I understand that Monte Carlo would have limited space and there would be only multi storied flats to accommodate the people over there.
You are lucky that now a days you have been staying in an independent house and you have all the privacy and peace over there.

It is nice that you could adjust in an independent house and you could stay in a flat also. Due to shortage of space in big cities, there is likelihood that future generation will have to stay in flats.

We are in a suburban area in the city, many houses are still on their own land. But more and more are being demolished and new apartments are being built
The new structures are modern in design and facilities. They take up all corners of the lot, 2 or 3 stories high, 3 units in all. I can't imagine myself in those places with no soil, no plants, and not enough ventilation.
