Social media and you.

Social media platforms have invaded our life like anything and many people stay glued to social media platforms. I have observed that some people specifically mention (read advertise/declare) on their posts/ pictures/ stories etc. that it is their birthday today (hidden intention may be to remind others, so that they could send their wishes).
I won't ever make any such post declaring that it is my birthday today, those who are close to me know my birthday and will extend their greetings accordingly.
Would you like to tell others on various social media platforms that it is your birthday and you are expecting greetings from your followers?

I have also hidden my birthday on social sites. My close friends and family wish me a happy birthday and anniversary. I don't usually declare that

It means that you love to remain private and you do not declare your birthday on a social media site that it is your birthday and others should take note of it.

@LotusEyes It is interesting to hear that your friends remembered your birthday and they made a video for you. So sweet of them.
I would like to add that those who are connected with you through Facebook, automatically come to know about your birthday through the notification sent by Facebook.

@dpk262006 Earlier I was declared on Facebook but this year I deliberately hide. I wanted to see if anyone remembered my birthday.
My friends surprised me. They all made a video message. I liked it very much

@Starkinds That is right that when you sign up for Facebook, they ask for your date of birth. Moreover, Facebook sends messages/notifications to your followers/those who are in your friends' list so that you could come to know about your birthday.
However, my point was - will you post a message on Facebook that it is your birthday today?

It is better to stay private as far as social media platforms are concerned. You never know who is stalking you and trying to gather your personal data.
Yes, you are right that your near and dear ones know your birthday and they do not need Facebook notification to remind them.

@dpk262006 I prefer to share nothing private on social media, they are often hacked, everything you post or write could be used against you, it is better to keep a low profile.

@LadyDuck Yes, you do the right thing that you do not share anything personal on social media platform. Our personal information, if posted could be misused by others.

If people ask, I don't mind telling them, but no, I won't tell them otherwise.

That is the relevant point that you tell others about your birthday through your private channels and you do not declare it on a social media platform.
Have a nice day!

I understand your point that you would post a message/ picture on a social media platform to inform or say remind your followers/ friends that it is your birthday today and they should take a note of it.
Nothing wrong in receiving good wishes from friends and relative on your birthday. It is natural that when you send your wishes to others on their birthday, you expect them to reciprocate.

@dpk262006 No... everyone apart from my family has to ask sometime or other, and I will not tell. I rather like if no one knows.

@allknowing I deliberately wrote the comment "nice to see you here after a long time" ......I was expecting a counter reply that I too was absent from here. Yes, that is true that I was not active here during the past many months, due to one reason or the other, therefore we did not meet here.
I hope that in the era of pandemic you are doing well and you and your family are safe and sound.

@sjvg1976 Yes, you have made an interesting point that through whatsapp stories/ whatsapp status also, some people declare that it is their birthday or sometimes their very close relative post a story / status about their birthday. Understandably, they are desperate about receiving wishes from others.

@dpk262006 whatsapp status is one the trend where people show what they are up to. I daily see lots of statuses which gives me a feeling that a person wants to convey that he needs wishes from all

You mean to say that you do not declare on a social media site i.e. Facebook that it is your birthday because you know the through Facebook notifications your near and dear ones will come to know about your birthday and will accordingly greet you.

Even if I post I don't expect every follower will send me their wishes.
Mostly my family members and very close who knew me will definitely send their wishes but it's also not a must they will send their wishes.
Have a blessed Tuesday and stay safe
