We had water hyacinth for years but for reasons not known it disappeared. I now got a plant from our ancestral home and it is thriving It has already had three flowers and I am waiting for it to get suckers. Water hyacinth is considered a weed in many countries but it has a pride of place in our garden

This one is larger than what we had earlier. I had to buy that huge tub just to accommodate it

That is true it is considered a weed that clogs many rivers if they grow unmanaged. But they are good for goldfish breeding as they love to lay their eggs on their roots. It also is easier to transfer eggs from one place to another since goldfish loves to eat their eggs after laying them on the roots. So you have to transfer its eggs to another place to hatch them

@allknowing My Grandfather used to breed godlfish before. When we see goldfish chasing each other they would usually put those hyacinths on the pond they they would brush their body to the roots of the plant while they are being chased by male goldfish. After that when they are relaxed then we inspect the roots if there are eggs attached and we transfer them to another pool where we wait for them to hatch.

The plant looks nice. It does not look like a weed.
