@S4mmyboy Yes, it varies from place to place. It's nearly always a white fish like cod or haddock. Plaice is usually the more expensive option. I suspect that restaurants buy whatever fish they can from the suppliers based on their customers' preferences and the wholesale price.
Here in Cambridge most takeaways sell cod and the price for a portion of cod and chips is between £5 and £6. Portion sizes vary but my local is quite generous and one portion is usually enough for two people!

Oh, wow... I can't answer your question since I don't know the answer. I don't like fish so never bothered finding out what kind is served in the restaurants here.
I have guppies in a tank in my living room... If you're hungry, I could let you eat one or two of them.

@S4mmyboy Yes, I saw someone else answered your question. (I'm trying to help you earn more pennies. ) Yes, it's the smell I don't like. There are some ways to cook fish so it doesn't smell and I can eat it. I made the mistake once of eating sushi and won't make that mistake again! (I burped fish smell for three days after eating it. )
One thing you need to do to help you earn here is to write two discussions every day. One when you come onto myLot in the morning and one before you leave for the day. Make sure you space them out or people won't pay attention to both of them. (If I see someone writing two discussions one after the other, I will only look at one of them. A lot of myLotters who've been here a while do it the same way I do.)

Actually am asking to all those who reside in US, UK . As these 'fish n chips' outlets are very famous. Lots of people love it. The reason for me to ask is just wanted to know if they use any particular fish.
Like how pomfret and surmai (king fish) is famous here in any restaurants in India.

I believe it is cod. I love the fish and chips and I too lived UK. I liked the haddock too.

Well may be John Dory... But in general, which fish do the chefs use was my question
