Do you still use Facebook? Do your friends still send false "memes" on facebook?

I have for the most part stopped using Facebook. One reason is those who over-post and expect a "like" on everything they're doing, including getting drunk at yet another brew house.
But the main reason is the false memes that people still persist in sending. It doesn't matter whether it's about black criminals being persecuted by the police or about how the Virus was invented by the Democrats around the world to control people.
Pithy articles are rarely attached, and I'm left scratching my head about how sheep-like humans can be.
This morning's meme came from a Covid denier. (Sadly, it was Horse Jr's mom.) The headline read that 70% of those double vaccinated for Covid would be hospitalized or die when the "third wave" of Covid hits.
But then there was one short paragraph below that said something very different. It said that 70% of those who become ill when the third wave hits will have been double vaccinated, a UK study shows. This is because more than 70% of the UK population will have been fully vaccinated by then. The paragraph made it clear that the Covid vaccine was not hurting anyone.
My question: Did someone read an article and write a false headline based on their lack of understanding of the original text? Or is this some BS put out there by the likes of Alex Jones, knowingly and willfully manipulating the uneducated (or people for whom English is not their first language)?
I inivte your thoughts.

It always amazes me when someone posts something that is so obviously fake. I think they actually believe it. I still use Facebook because I have some online friends and some relatives that I contact there. There is only one person that I know of that posts outlandish claims.

@LindaOHio Have only US citizens become idiots? Or is this a worldwide phenomenon?

@TheHorse Any you probably won't get it because it tells the true story.

@sjvg1976 I really hope they do, too. I hope you and your family get vaccinated quickly.

I thought England and India are in the third wave but not us? Not sure about that, though.

It sounds like an Alex Jones kind of thing to me. I hope we get a much higher percentage of vaccinated people soon.
I use Facebook mostly because that is where the notices are posted for new acting gigs in Portland.

@JamesHxstatic Why did you turn it down? How much would you have made?

@TheHorse I wrote about that before. It is just a hobby I got into a few years ago, They film a lot of movies and tv shows there and need "extras," so I submit my photo and whatever else. I have done maybe 15 different things. I spend the night at my daughter's house and vest with her. Nothing happened last year at all, but they are doing some this year. I turned one down last week.

I am not much on Facebook and I find it a waste of time. I am still keeping the account as we need it sometimes to log in to something. And it's not only FB, many social media platforms go that way. Videos and messages get viral in no time and they will have no truth or logic there.

@TheHorse Facebook controls lives when people allow it to do so. Many people out there feel that Facebook is life.

@erictsuma Me neither. It upsets me that people send BS that they have not "vetted."

I now use FB as a tool to observe the behaviors of people I know . . . there are some that I clearly need to stay away from. I lurk there all the time, but do not post or comment anymore. People twist and skew and put their 2 cents on stuff there . . . misinformation spreading everywhere (some things more obvious than others). I hope people will do their own research instead of believing everything they read on FB. Hate those fake memes!

@DaddyEvil I wonder if the squirrels and bunnies take selfies with the plants they munch up and post 'em on FB . But then they'd be caught red handed for sure - no wonder they don't accept my friend requests .
FB has become ridiculous. A kind of fake world.

I'm glad I haven't heard any fake news about squirrels or bunnies.
There's a reason I stay away from Fb.

@much2say I suppose the squirrels and bunnies could put on human costumes for Fb... but that would be a lot of trouble when there are enough humans out there already causing mischief...
Yes, it has. And that's a shame.

My reasons for being on FB are to get in touch with friends over Messenger, I have two pages there for my published poetry books and I am in various poetry groups, But lately, I have not been there as often but these are the only reasons I stay there, When I post poetry I post also to my pages and to the groups, What I really consider a waste of time I MeWe never really understood them but I joined because I was helping a friend administer a poetry group, Now that ended and I am going to delete my account there,

@TheHorse just ran into some trouble at FB my friends are getting friend invitations from me and it's not me but many are telling me they are deleting and reporting so hopefully it all goes back to normal, I hate when things like that happen,

Common sense is common no longer. Some things you just have to shake your head over and delete.

I use Facebook to watch videos and keep in touch with relatives in UK and abroad. I don't receive any strange meme's. I use instagram as well.

I actually think it is some of both. There are people who cannot follow the gist of a scientific article and mistakenly find news that is not there. Then there are people who just like to twist statistics. (Twist statistics sounds like a nice tongue twister, say it three times quickly.)

I have for the most part stopped using facebook. I may clear notifications or "like" a post. But, I've stopped scrolling through my feed. When all this started, I'd been on it a lot more. I saw a lot of fighting amongst people, and I'd gotten into my fare share of fights over face masks, and all sorts of other trival things. Hell, I got attacked by someone I knew, because I shared a post about not being a mask bully. I got tired of it, so I just stopped really going.
It's not worth it.
As for what you said. I agree, there's someone out there sending conflicting and confusing information. I don't know who they are, but if that stuff pops up I ignore it.
My husband and I chose not to get vaccinated. We don't have to explain ourselves to anyone.

I stopped going to Fb years ago. I was tired of all the crap so just shut it down...
I don't know... I know there are a lot of people who keep insisting that Covid isn't real and one myLotter kept telling me that I was foolish for getting vaccinated. I hope he doesn't get Covid.

I think its deliberate and even people who should be able to understand English will still only read the headline and believe it. As for using fb I simply started removing people. It did not matter how I knew them. If they wanted to share stupid stuff they went bye bye.

These false stories are caused by those wanting to push their agenda on everyone else so get those rumors out there. They know gullible people, who don't fact check, will send them out over and over. It's like the magnet sticking to the arm thing. I'm on FB but am cautious who is on my friends list. I scroll past some. I don't post as often but when I do, I can care less about gathering likes.
