How did you learn to drive?

When you first started driving, how did you learn? Did you have classes at school, go to driving school, or did someone teach you? I had driver's ed in school but we didn't do much at all, they showed us videos of accidents and gave us a paper book. The year after, they actually had a decent class where they had textbooks and took you out driving. I never really had anyone show me how to drive, so I don't drive. How about you guys?

Since our high school did away with Driver's Ed the year I was eligible to take it, I ended up going to a private driving school that taught both the classroom and behind the wheel stuff.

How did you feel about going out on the road? Did you feel that they taught you enough in the classroom to be ready for the road? I think driving schools should have a private couse to take you out on before you head to the road.

I had driver's ed in school and had to drive for the class in the summer. Did that but didn't get my liscense until I was 18. My parents wouldn't let me. Funny, my siblings all got their's when they were 16. The tried to tell me it was because I was the oldest and that's just what happens. Plus I liked to party on weekend's but I knew better than to drink and drive back then.

I never took drivers ed. I grew up on a farm. All summer long we used to drive the tractors in the hay field. From the day that we were big enough to be able to brake and clutch... we were driving! I finally went and took my test when I was 18, because I was pregnant and my boyfriend (now hubby) was working and I needed to get back and forth to the doctors and such. So I had to learn to drive a car. Just don't ask me to parallel park! THAT I can't do! LOL

I was working for Maruti Dealer in Goa. Most of the staff were driving the cars. One day our General Manager gave his car key to me and said just move my car. I was stunned and don't know what to answer. I took the key and sat on driver seat. Just put the car in neutral gear and taken in down. When our G.M. came to know that I could not drive he instructed one of the mechanic to teach me the driving. And you know I learn driving within 3 days, not perfect but little bit. I started driving new showroom condition car on the road from 6th day of learning my driving. Oh what a great experince you have asked me to recollect. Thanks.

I took a driver ed class. My father taught me, but it was a fight to get him to let me drive his car, he was old school and woman didn't have any rights, he did teach me and I turned out to be a pretty good driver. I went for my license the same time as my younger brother.

Wow! That's pretty good that you taught yourself. Why wait for someone else to teach you when you can do it yourself. Good job! Thanks for your response.

I was so scared to go on the road but once i got over it i was OK. i dont know why ppl pay for lessons to me its a waste of $$$ get a friend or a relative and there u go. Nice topic Take care.

I had drivers ed in school. We did a ton of paper work on what the signs mean and watched videos of accidents. However, we never went and did behind the wheel stuff. I had to go an do that with a private driving instructor and let me tell you, they can be pricy. I have my license now but barely drive since I dont have a car.

I got my car when I was 22. In fact my father bought it for me. When I got it I did not know anything about driving. But I had my motorbike and riding licence. My uncle taught me to drive for two days and I was going on my on after that. I have taught my friends to drive and except on who took 10 years to learn, all others, even the females were able to drive after two days. I never went to class and never learnt from a book.
