In Surfside, Florida a 12-story condo partially collapsed overnight, Rescuers are searching for people in the rubble. They believe there is littte hope for survivors and 51 people are missing while 1 person is dead. The tragic accident occurred a little after midnight.
That came first now the latest news is 99 people missing, 10 hurt, and 1 dead.
The condo tower had 136 units, with 55 units along the northeast corridor which collapsed. At present 35 have been rescued from the structure and two were pulled out from the rubble. The building was pancaked. For 15 families it ended well as they walked out of the building on their own.
And can you imagine you buy a condo that ranges from $600,000 to $699,000 and this happens?
Right now a massive search is being conducted for the missing so all we can do is pray for these people. They have set up a family reunification center for any missing or unaccounted for relatives.

I learned this news today. Why did this building collapse? I guess this is not an old building and there is no earthquake. Actually there was also a building collapsed few weeks ago in Hunan Province from my country because of bad quality. It is always sad to see news like that. I hope there will be more survivors.

@youless unfortunately sometimes builders try to cut corners and use cheap material and then these unfortunate things happen

Do they know what caused that? I'm glad I no longer live in a structure like that. Hoping no more die as a result.

@kaylachan they say the building was not very stable and mold was developing and so on, Most likely while building corners were cut and material used was not the best, I don't live in a palace but a simple two-story home with my apartment on the second floor and the house does not look like much but my friends lived here before I cam for 19 years and it does get maintenance so I say if this wooden structure can keep standing a condo like that should never have collapsed,

I saw this and I just feel sick for all those sleeping in their beds--I hope they didn't suffer.

@LindaOHio apparently the building was unsteady and mold was developing but I have not idea how old, Today they say about 99 people missing,
