How To Stay Motivated While Job Hunting

This was a photo I took back in June 2018.
I did not go to a different country nor did I receive this box full of goodies from a relative living abroad. The box contained all the stuff that I had accumulated at work for the past five or so years that I was there. You see at that time, I had been let go along with the other 200 plus employees of our company. We were made redundant by the change in plans of the company. We were laid off.
It came as a surprise because two months prior, we were in a management meeting with the expats and they assured us that everything is smooth sailing and we just renewed the office contract for another five years and HR along with Accounting is already working on the new salary ranges for the whole company.
So it was a big gut punch when we were asked to go to a meeting and right then and there, our last pay was given and we were let go. It was hard to accept it but there was no other option. What raced through my mind was getting new work. Of course it wasn't easy as I wasn't expecting to be unemployed at that time. Anyway, I kept my wits about and decided to start applying for new work the next day.
It was very hard but I managed to keep motivated while job hunting by following these steps:
1. I kept in mind what my core values are as a person and as an employee.
2. I wrote my marketable skills and relevant experience.
3. I identified my areas of opportunities and how I can improve these.
4. I chose something that I love doing.
It wasn't easy and I must admit, not all the work that came had these four items ticked off but it was a matter of balancing what I need to do immediately versus what will sustain me in the long term.

True. I didn't readily manage it. I did find a job after a month but I had to leave it. Had other jobs but it didn't last as long as I wanted for one reason or another.

That was a few years ago. We're you able to stay motivated long enough to get a new job?

@MarshaMusselman true.
I just find things that I'm thankful for the current work that I have. It is work from home and my schedule is during the day.

@allen0187 That's the best way to do it. Get something at least and then look for something better.

Thanks. I agree, find a job that you enjoy and you'll never work for the rest of your life.

I am sorry what happened to you. I hate job hunting. It was always a pain to go from place to place and then be rejected because you were either over qualified or underqualified. Looking for a business to do is not easy either. I hate when people tell you one thing to your face and then plan another behind your back. Are you still at that job that you got and did it turn out fine in the end and a job you want to do for a long time and that you will not have to worry if you will be let go again?

Staying motivated while job hunting is hard..and I hate the whole process. You have set down some valuable pointers for people though.

No one likes job hunting. It is harder now because of the pandemic.

True.
However, there are a lot of jobs available. You just have to have the right skill set for such.

Keep on hoping for the best. You may not see the rewards soon, but eventually it will come to you if you keep on working and committed to your work. One company may have failed you no matter how hard you worked,. but keep on working and you will reap rewards later.
