Our knife holder fell down

The photo has nothing to do with the discussion but I’m feeling nostalgic.
I wrote earlier about the accessories we’ve put in the kitchen but tonight the magnetic knife strip fell off the wall. If we want to screw it to the wall we need to drill through the tiles at the back and we’re a bit scared about wrecking the tile. We’ll sleep on it for the moment – not on the knives but on the idea of drilling through the tiles.
In other news, we’ve had someone in West Australia test positive with the Delta strain of COVID and we’re in a four-day lockdown. The endurance ride we were to go to next weekend has been cancelled and we’re to stay home except for exceptional circumstances.

@JudyEv there is concern here too and unfortunately Mississippi is the most reluctant state to get vaccinated.

Nice to see the roos again! Ohhh, at our apartments, we had a magnetic knife strip on the side of the fridge. That thing would slide off from the weight of the knives
. We could have screwed it into the wall, but there really was no convenient space for it. We are fully opened now but we are staying cautious . . . that Delta strain seems to be going around everywhere
.

@JudyEv Right - I would be concerned about the tiles too. We have a back splash with little tiles - I don't think we'd be able to screw into that.
Only 2! I am sure there are more cases here. I wish protocol was much stricter here like it is there . . . if we go in lockdown again, people are going to scream
.

The knives aren't that heavy but obviously too heavy for the two-sided tape. We don't want to try screwing into the tile in case it shatters or whatever.
Our lockdown is more a precaution as only 2 people have it. However, it spreads so rapidly our authorities are taking no chances.

Two ladies in a nursing home here have tested positive for the Delta strain. The home has been put under quarantine while the health department try to figure out how the ladies contracted the virus. (Both were vaccinated and neither was outside the home.)

@JudyEv I don't know about that. I haven't seen any reports on it yet. Pretty thinks the virus came in with a visitor to the home... which is possible, I guess.

@DaddyEvil I think it would be highly likely that the virus was brought in by a visitor.
In our cases, there has no close contact in a couple of instances between the original carrier and the those who caught it - just that they were in the same gym room.

Great picture, love the roos!
It's interesting that you mention your experience with a knife holder. A few weeks ago, my husband and I were shopping in a kitchen accessory store.
One of the displays in the store was a magnetic knife holder. I turned to my husband and said that I never wanted anything like that in our home. I always feared that something would fall. He agreed, thankfully.
That Delta strain is quite scary. I'm sorry that your event was cancelled. On a happier note, I'm glad to hear that you are not going to sleep on the knives! Ouch! I don't mind getting the point of a matter but that's not the kind of point I want to get. ![](/Content/images/emotes/cry.gif)

@JudyEv When we shifted we too had to fix racks here and there. These two racks are still going strong - one is near our buffet table and one in the kitchen. The kitchen one is on a wall and that near the buffet is fixed to a side of the wooden cupboard. We recently did some drilling in our rest room and all is well there and that had to be done on tiles.

@judyev This Covid thing really is getting quite tiresome. we transported our cats to the new house today. One is right at home already in the huge garden but the other is cowering in the bushes in the field beside us. She’ll be ok eventually.

Oh, that sucks (the virus information). But the vaccinations are supposedly effective against the Delta strain, right? We'll see what happens here. Things have really opened up since most people are vaccinated.
As for the magnetic strip, how was it attached to the wall? We had one above where the kids washed their hands at one of the preschools where I worked. It always made me just a tiny bit nervous.

Vaccinations here are going ahead very quickly but there are still a lot on covered - us included. Vince got an appointment yesterday but then the lines seemed to lock up and I wasn't able to log in to get one.
We used a double-sided tape to attach the knife holder. It should have been plenty strong enough but I never trust them either. Our friend up the road had two hooks give way and a framed picture came crashing down.

We are trying a different double-sided tape today but we're not too hopeful. The lockdowns are such a nuisance. Schools go on holiday on Friday but everyone is cancelling their holiday plans so accommodation places are really getting hit hard.

The Delta seems to be really bad in the way it spreads so easily. Vince now has an appointment to get tested but the (on)lines seemed to clog up before I could get an appointment. We'll try again today. Have you been vaccinated yet?

I wanted to put shelves up in the kitchen too but there are tiles and cannot drill into them so settled for other places. Even though it is your home and you bought it not a good idea. Do you have another place close by that you can put the strip so it will stay up and not affect the tiles or the electric. That is not fun to be in lockdown even though it is for 4 days. I am sorry it was cancelled and hope you have enough of stuff so do not have to go out until the lockdown is over with.

Every time I attached a strip to the wall fell. Sometimes they stay for months, but sooner or later they fell.
My husband is very good in drilling the tiles. If you decide to drill, before drilling check the area for pipes.
I have read about your mini lockdown, this Delta mutation is scary.

@JudyEv You do not need a special drill for drilling tiles, you need the correct drill bit. Check the material of your tiles and look at YouTube videos and also online tutorials.
The Delta strain is scary, the UK went from no more than 200 cases a day to 22,000 in only 2 weeks.

Sorry about the lockdown. I don't know what to suggest about the knife holder. Would Super Glue work? Take care and stay safe and healthy! Love the roo pictures.

It's inconvenient being in lockdown but if it stops the virus it is worth it.
