I incubated another batch of eggs last month and I didn't tell ya'll!!! I was just busy with other things and wasn't on myLot a whole lot. We had a lot of rain during that period too so no internet.
Anyway, I put in more eggs the second time around in hopes of getting some pullets (hens) this time around. I added 18 eggs vs. the 14 in the first round of incubating. How many chicks did I get? Two!! And one didn't make it.
The little black one did not survive. I don't think he was actually ready to jailbreak the egg as he had not absorbed all of the yolk sac. I thought he was doing better on Day 2 but on Day 3 he went down fast and didn't make it.
So I have one little chick in the tub growing up and being spoiled. This little girl (I hope) is a trouble maker for sure. She shreds all of the paper towels that I line the bottom of the tub with. She puts pieces in her water dish which absorbs all the water and then she has none. She scratches all around shredding and trying to dig out of the tub. I had initially named her Sunshine because she is the yellow one in the photo, but I think we may have to call this one little miss troublemaker.

Why did you only manage to hatch out two this time? Do you know what went wrong?

@DaddyEvil I was thinking the same thing with the humidity or even a barometer change.

@kareng Weird... I wonder if the power fluctuated so they got inconsistent heat? I also wonder if the humidity fluctuation from the stormy weather could make a difference?

@LindaOHio Me too! I held that or had it tucked in my shirt for about 7 hours that night.

@kareng They will. He had some lay late after he started his incubator so he didnt want to do a second hatch

@Nakitakona I have never had a clutch make a mess as fast as this one little chick does all by herself.

@kareng yes of course. You know it's the tendency of the chick to mess its quarter. But sunshine reveals its yellow feather.
I do read your post. I don't skip it. Are you doubting me? That's fine.

To bad about the one chick. Glad the others survived.
