Hello Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening to all my dear mylotters
I woke up in a cloudy and cold day. I was able to have a morning walk and a dancing exercise but will not do evening walk because it looks like it is going to rain again just like yesterday night.
Anyways, I was cleaning my fridge and food cabinet today to check if all the food products are still in good conditions. Even though I don`t buy too much food. There are still food products that expires very quick. I still eat some of the expired items when they are only a few days expired but more than that. I have no choice but to throw them away . Expired milk is not good to drink when it is expired a few days because it might give you stomach problems but I`m not sure with others.
How about you my dear mylotters? Do you still eat expired for a few days or weeks meat or canned food products?
I hope you can share it with me here
Have a great day and Happy mylotting

I eat some things past their expiration date. Some items it doesn't really matter.

@JordanLader Oh ok. I don`t know that. I usually throw away it right away when it expires. I will take note of that. Thank you
I think you have a point there.

@m_audrey6788 It depends on the food. Most canned items can last over a year after their expiration. Anything fresh like meat that hasn't been frozen doesn't usually last to the expiration date so that has to be thrown away.
You can buy discounted meat at a store, freeze it and it will be good when it thaws out.

@m_audrey6788 I bought a large quantity when the Covid pandemic started, but I know that pasta keeps for years, same for olive oil.

When foods are obviously spoiled, we throw them away. But when they expired and still smell fine, we do eat them. Canned foods, they are safe to eat long after the expiration date. Dairy products, they definitely taste funny when they're not fresh and beginning to spoil. Nope, we throw them away.

I don't consume any expired products and that's why I buy the ones with bigger shelf life and keep checking which ones expiry is due to finish it before it

It just depends on what it is and how long it is out of date.

Expiration dates on food items, at least in the US, are suggestions... I wouldn't drink milk after it's expiration date and usually freeze meat, so it's good for six months or longer... Canned products are usually good for up to a year passed their expiration date. Dried/box foods can last forever as long as they don't get damp.
Manufacturers LOVE it when people throw away food because of the "expiration" date printed on the box/can. They can sell you more after you've thrown perfectly good food away.
In the US, most dates are now called "Best By" dates and can also be treated as suggestions.

I guess it depends on how far from the expiration date it is if I'll eat it or not.
I remember the "good old days" before food had expirations dates on them. We used to just smell everything and if it smelled okay we'd eat it. As for canned goods, as long as the can wasn't bulging it was still good.

God/ Mother Nature gave us a sense of smell for a reason. It's pretty easy to tell whether meat or milk is still good.
Canned foods will keep for years so it's quite difficult to get past their expiry date. And surely you don't keep unopened canned foods in the fridge?

I always seal them with expiry dates in order for me to see when they are no more good. Yes. I don`t keep unopened canned foods in the firdge. I put them in a food cabinet.

Generally all food products comes with an expiry date. There are 2 types..... One is BBE (Best before end) while the other is Use by....
So you can consume the BBE one even after the date because the product is at its best before the date and may lose its best after the date, so still you can consume it.
While the Use by has to be discarded once it crosses the date. If you you miss by a day or two should be fine, but not more than a week . They won't be fit for human consumption anymore

"That means the food does not expire in the sense of becoming inedible. For un-refrigerated foods, there may be no difference in taste or quality, and expired foods won't necessarily make people sick." Excerpt taken from:

I don't. it is not safe. Indeed milk when expired even before its expiration date , if it looks and smells bad. Should be thrown into the garbage.
I do take vitamins past their expiration. But not more than a month.

Canned foods are not popular here in my country.
Canned foods are actually very harmful and cancer causing if consumed on excess.
So, I suggest please don't eat canned food a lot
