Accept or Not to Accept???

Last night, I received a message from a mail inviting me to submit my credentials for they need me to occupy the vacant position Dean College of Arts and Sciences with courses BS Math, BS GenScie, BS CS. and more. It was my friend the College president who invited me to join their force and since I am employed in a government -run university, my service will be continuous for the said college is owned by the local government. It's run by LGU's but a Class A college and teachers' salaries are huge and stable. The salary per month is more or less 104, 000 pesos Ph money. My salary in the university is more or less 94,000 pesos per month .It has only small difference. My sister dislikes me to work there outside the city for it's risky.
I feel honored to hold a position as College dean, but I have my doubts to accept the offer for last year, there was a shooting incident inside the campus. The dean of the Education department was shot by an unknown assailant and until this time the suspect is still at large. ,plus I will keep on travelling on that place .It will be reached for 1 hour by car. I do not know - to accept or not.
What do you think my friends, will it be good to accept the offer or not? I am so hesitant. Thanks for reading my long post.

Weigh the benefits against the risks.
If you're happy now, is the extra money worth the extra risk?
Are the two hours a day commutes going to add to fuel and insurance expenses?
Do you want to tie up your time for two extra hours?
After you've weighed everything, do what your heart tells you. A solution will come to you.

@Vikingswest1, thank you so much for your very impressive advise my friend. Awhile ago I was told there is no retention of school heads in that college despite attractive salary it's because that town is noted with many rebels, God. I won't gamble. I may stay with my current position in the university.

Honest?
I'm relieved you've come to that conclusion.
There may come a time when a change could be good, I'm just afraid this isn't it.

@Vikingswest1 yes and thanks to all your advise here. I'm also calling the attention of my friends living in that town, they confirmed there are rebel students there. Even their college president none survived the ordeal to stay until retirement, meaning there is something wrong.

@marlina, It seems risky travelling long distance, plus the issue on shooting incident. Though the victim of the shooting incident survived, but he would end his term on that school as per advise ny his wife, children and parents. The suspect may come back anytime to their school if he likes to finalyze his bad intention.

This is not a decision that another person can take for you. You have to evaluate what are the advantages to have this position against the risks. Money is important, but you are not going to make the double than you make now. May be you are going to spend all the extra money you earn to fill up your car.

@LadyDuck , We had a meeting last night and got a synchronous decision to reject due to security reasons. I already turned down the offer this morning when the college president called me. i just told her that I will not be dismissed in the university, The it so happened , too my boss in the university messaged me this morning that my teaching loads are already posted in the loading portal.. It is so timely. Thank you so much.

@LadyDuck, thanks Anna, but I will also treasure the bright minds of the mylotters. I evaluated them very important. It seems they see beyond and across seas and skies the actual situation of the school and the offer. You also have that bright mind to guide me what to do as the ultimate owner of my decision. Thanks so much. We also have a short meeting with my family this evening and the final verdict which I also complemented is to turn down the invitation.

Hmm what an interesting post you have there ma. If you ask me, I will say you should think about the prons and cons of the said job before accepting it. The shooting of the formar Dean is something you should also think about, another is your safety. Are you gonna be safe working there or you will be working and at the same time thinking that the unthinkable may likely to happen. So think about it very carefully before taking the job.
But all the same I wish you all the best.

@lindcurtins, thanks for your wise thought. That's also the reason of my family
Then I'll have to report f2f in August 1. That school is located in somewhat remote location

10 percent difference in salary is something but that will be eaten away by your additional transport cost. One hour driving cost is substantial at the moment with high fuel cost. On the other hand position of dean of a college is prestigious. You have to look into all pros and cons before accepting or rejecting the offer.

@msdivkar, I'm so thankful of your brilliant idea, unless the school provides me free gasoline. I'm also thinking about the schedule, I'll report to work August 1 f2f, not online considering we're on ECQ and Delta virus is now present in Cagayan de Oro City. Thanks for your brilliant idea

@thelme55, it is not in Marawi, the more risky because people there can see actual shooting/ killing. In fact, my friend teacher there resigned because one time, one man beside her was shot and killed and dropped near her feet. It is the Tagoloan Community College organized before by the brother of the deceased Governor Dongkoy Emano ( RIP).

@thelme55 , yes so true Marawi is a very risky place. This time , the city looks great after that war between government and terrorists where the top terrorists were killed. Just imagine how they occupied the city. That's the reason why the government spend almost 1.8 billion to restore Marawi. Tagoloan is situated after Bugo, Cagayan de Oro city. It is the first town going to West.

@cacay1 It was already risky there in Marawi in the late 70s. I was glad that I didn’t pass the scholarship in Marawi at that time. My friends who were studying there transferred to other universities in our country as they had experienced shooting there. Where is Tagoloan Community College? I have not heard of it until now.

From what you said here, it seems you already knew the cons as you have enumerated them. And so it appears more or less, you already have an idea in your mind of whether you'll accept or not, you just tend to be confused and wants to hear the opinions of others. Pray for enlightenment, listen to your heart and your answer shall come.

@pitsipeahie,very well said, yes you're right. I listen to my heart and it tells me of many things whether to accept or not. We had a short meeting at home and we come up with a synchronous decision to turn down the offer due to many circumstances one is the presence of rebel students in that school and surrounding area plus the worst ordeal in this trying time

There's not much of a difference in the pay....just a hike of 10,000 pesos..... It will be time consuming and also your fuel expenses will increase, so I don't think it's advisable...and also as you said of the shooting incident, means security is at risk..... But it's up-to you to choose

Try to see the risks of accepting it. If you think the risk is acceptable. Then, why not accept it.

Really depends on the advantages and disadvantages of working for each uni. The pay isn't that far apart. If it was up to me, I'd look at the possible career growth and other aspects of the compensation package.

@allen0187 , thank you dear, but my program head this day called me and said my loads in USTP are already ready and online classes start August 17, while in the other college, there is physical appearance of the dean daily report to office and classes f2f. My God, so scary and my family got a synchronous decision to reject the offer which I did awhile ago when the College president of the other school called me. She was so worried, for deans must report to work August 1 f2f. Offer Rejected.

@Shiva49 , you are right Shiva, that offer may put me to risk due to the quality of their students and the location is a little bit far from the national road. Meaning, if I am along driving my car, it's horrible, what if someone undesirable blocks my way ???Horror. The college president called me this morning regarding my decision, and I told her that I cannot accept their offer. She was worried. We had a meeting last night with my family and had a synchronous decision not to accept the offer.. By the way as dean no subjects will be offered to teach , in the university where I am in, I am handling Algebra , and Physics with Rigid Bodies.

Hm...I think whoever shot the former Dean of Education could have done it because they wanted to shoot the dean themself, not just anyone who could have been shot.
Have you ever been told about the assailant's motives? Was the former dean connected to any important figure?

@Tierkreisze , the dean is my friend, Dr. Gomez. He never had done wrong to the students and even to his colleagues, maybe that suspect was on tripping mood. I saw the video and the suspect was a huge man maybe hired killer. I saw Dr. Gomez entering the other part of the building when so suddenly 2 shots fired at his right back. The assumption of others is revenge because his son is a police officer in their barangay and is so strict and abusive. That's the people's assumption.

@cacay1 That's just so...unfair! Hire a hitman to kill a bad cop's parents? They're just being as bad as the abusive cop, if not worse. And that's assuming that he really was "abusive". Is he, really? Or is he just a strictly fair cop who just happened to put a rich person in jail?
I wish all the hitmen in the world would just disappear.

Safety is first everything else is secondary..you should think and discuss with your family and friends first then should reach out to a suitable decision.. Money and position can be achieved anytime, anywhere else too but safety couldn't be guaranteed..
I wish you good luck
