There is a local organic farm only a few miles from here that grows all kinds of meat, bison, elk, and organic produce.
I talked about it awhile back. I visited and saw the bison that are for pleasure, not buying. They are cool to see.
Now they have all kinds of produce available. I noticed this tiny "patty pan" squash. Never seen it before. Might have to try a recipe with these little cuties.
Small, patty pan squash is available year round in many grocery stores but in season during the summer, is a delicious addition to your kitchen.
Patty pan squash has a mild flavor, similar to yellow squash or zucchini, and is available in yellow and green. It's the perfect size for stuffing, but also delicious when roasted or sautéed.
Ever heard of patty pan squash before? I will give it a try. This photo was snapped at the farm, he had some ideas on how to cook this squash. Looks good stuffed as an Italian dish.

No can't say that I have. Never gone out of my way to look for it, either.

Yes, I've heard of it. You will enjoy it. As for the bison, we hope to revisit Big Bone Lick State Park in Kentucky to see the bison. If I don't have to walk far, we can see them again.

@CarolDM The last time we were at Big Bone Lick, the bison came up to this feeble little fence (not electrified); and my husband said that one of the bison was giving him the stink eye. Their heads are so massive that it made hubs nervous!

@LindaOHio They are huge for sure and can be intimidating. These were looking for food.

I have never seen such a dish before. I have seen some Indian preparation with stuffed capsicum but never such a thing. It would be interesting to make.
I am not sure if I would like the taste that much or not!

I remember the bison and that you had been waiting for more produce from that farm. I used to see them cook patty pan squash on those tv cooking shows - and I've seen them at the stores when in season - but I have never attempted to cook them myself. These stuffed ones look cute and delicious . . . hmmmm, I'll have to go look up a recipe!!

What's the difference between butternut squash and this patty pan squash? I'm a little confused.

I never heard of patty pan squash before but I do love yellow squash and zucchini. Being able to stuff it is appealing. The picture certainly does look delicious.
