Photos from our weekend

The endurance ride that we attended on the weekend was held at Greenhills, Western Australia. There was no internet connection in the area so I couldn’t keep in touch with you all. We had intended to move on further north but, for a couple of reasons including really bad weather, we decided to come home. Luckily for the horse riders, Saturday was almost totally fine with only a couple of very light showers. There is an historic hotel at Greenhills plus a hall and about four or five houses. The road runs parallel to a disused railway line and the riders set up their camps between the road and the railway line. In the collage, you can see two of the very young riders who rode the 10 km course with their mothers. The third photo shows one of the many dogs that attend the rides with their owners. For the most part they are very well behaved and are all kept on leads. The last photo shows a water trough. The man who owns the house at one end of the street always puts out a large water trough which is much appreciated by those who are camped at that end of the stretch of land. It saves them having to carry water from the hall back to their camps. Can you see the horse-head cutouts on the tree above the trough and on the left of the photo?

the pictures are awesome as always. although why you put the blue bathtub outside, is a little concerning. shouldn't that be inside your travel trailer? I would be nervous bathing in public!

Didn't you read the post? I quote 'The man who owns the house at one end of the street always puts out a large water trough'. Goodness me, the things I have to put up with.

I was going to ask who rode the "horse" in that bottom left photo. It sounds like you and Vince still had a good time, even if you couldn't keep us posted on your activities. Yes, I can see the cutouts. Very interesting.

@JudyEv I don't blame you one little bit. I never liked riding horses in the rain... or snow... or anything besides sunshine.

The more we go to these rides, the more pleased we are that we take photos and don't actually have to ride in inclement weather.

Some exciting photographs. The young riders look quite spirited. Whose dog is there in that small tent? The cutouts look good one!

The dog's rider was out on the track. You can see a second dog in the background with his rug on. The strapper/handler was there too.

@JudyEv That is fine. May be you can post a "Find the Difference" kind of a post with two pictures with minor differences.

Now that you mention it I had to look at that frame again as I hadn't noticed horse-head cutouts the first time I looked. Some people are simply kind and considerate.

This guy had two pet sheep and was bottle-feeding six little lambs. He was quite a character.

@rebelann He was a happy-go-lucky soul. The lambs would only be fed perhaps three times a day.

@oahuwriter This is the season for rain, wind and showers, etc. It's just the luck of the draw if you get a fine weekend or not.

No, this is a different place. Each year, there is an endurance ride held at a number of different centres.

@S4mmyboy Give or take one or two, there is a ride every fortnight from April to late October. Several are held at the same venue but the rest are spread throughout the bottom half of the state.

The riders were really pleased that they didn't have to ride in the rain. It was cold enough just with the wind blowing.

Ooh, horse heads! Just like The Godfather! Such a cute dog, and you’re right, it seems so very well-behaved and content to be exactly where it is.

Some of the riders had two dogs with them. You'd think they would be busy enough just looking after a horse. lol

@JudyEv I noticed many times that dogs and horses love to play together. But I agree that two dogs and a horse to look after is A LOT!

@JudyEv Rufus is said to be a Blue Heeler but from photos I see a strong resemblance to a Kelpie. Both herder breeds.

I thought it was a red kelpie but that's the one in the background. I'm not sure of the breeding of this one. The dog has had that 'pillow' since it was a pup. lol

There is a very famous ride called the Tevis Cup which follows part of the Western States Trail which stretches from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Sacramento, California. The ride starts in California and is 100 miles so I guess it ends there too.

We are fine thanks but it's a bit more comfortable in our house than in a caravan. It was very wet and miserable for most of the weekend although we had power and heating so we can't really complain.

These little kids were quite confident trotting out the ponies. The grey mare is now quite old but was once a champion endurance horse. She'd be much older than her young rider.
