We have now hidden a spare house-key

There is nothing like a bit of inconvenience to get people started on finding a solution or making things easier. After locking ourselves out a few nights back, we have now found a place for a spare key. It is in a small bottle in the garden shed which has a combination lock. We can get into our ‘yard’ from the village side so this is a good solution for us – a bit better perhaps than hiding a key under a rock or pot plant. Hopefully we’ll never need it now that we have it. In other news, we are waiting for a ‘curtain lady’ to arrive to talk to us about curtains. She might also be a ‘blind lady’ which, for non-English first language speakers, is a joke meaning she probably knows about blinds as well as curtains.

I pray you never forget the combination to that lock. It seems you might be having a little fun decking out your new home.

It is an easy one to remember so I think we'll be safe. We ordered our curtains today but they won't be installed till around the end of November.

That seems like a pretty long wait, does she make them herself?

@rebelann There is a huge amount of building going on in our state and in our area. Lots of new homes popping up all over the place. She says they are flat out trying to keep up.

@JudyEv I remembered our very well before my husband wanted to change it. We asked at the hotel lobby and someone was very quick to open it without knowing the combination. I thought those locks were not really safe, but I could not imagine so very little.

@LadyDuck Oh gosh, that would have been very worrying. I guess the hotel staff learn all sorts of tricks.

This is a very easy combination and we've never changed it so we should be okay. I have trouble remembering our suitcase combination but Vince can always remember it - which is a very good thing!

Used to do that because it was amusing to hide a key just like in the movies. Thing is the doormat or the front door 'welcome plant' pot are easy hiding places accessible tp would-be thieves. Thus, we hid our spare key inside an old rubber shoe with a sock showing. Till the friend of my daughter said their house key was also tucked in her old sneaker tossed right outside their doorstep. I marveled and said, 'Now, I know.' Right away, the young friend called her Mama to tell 'Tita Eileen knows where the house key is, please change hiding place.' Sigh, she dwelt in another city. Gosh! Teens do believe I could be a potential thief. My spare is in the dashboard of the car.

That's quite a good place for a key - as long as you don't lock yourself out of the car!!

Good idea to have a key you can find when needed. A blind lady is very inSightful.

Or tape in on a tree, hidden behind the leaves. Or under a rock. But tape it under a pot plant is good too.

I finding choosing curtains quite stressful but everything nowadays seems to be all one colour - no florals or patterns, at least not in what we were shown. It made the choice easier.

@judyev Nifty solution, so long as you remember the combination when you come home in an inebriated stupor. My spare key rests in the graveyard, under the ceramic vase that sits atop the grave of a lady I once knew. Now I just need to remember which grave because I know a lot of the graveyard’s inhabitants.

@JudyEv Yes, my local. Margaret keeps her eyes on it for me, and after church every Sunday her family pay a brief visit to her unaware of what is secreted under her vase.

Is it in the graveyard just down the hill? I hope so. This combination is very easy to remember but I won't tell it to you in case you ever visit.

It's a load of our mind really. We've been talking about hiding a key but hadn't come up with a good solution. We like this as the key isn't accessible to anyone but us.

@JudyEv when we left Indiana, we left our hidden key. We had to call the people that bought the house and tell them where it was, because we hadn't used it in 11 years and forgot about it!
