A country church in Western Australia

I wrote about having lunch in a rather old hotel in Quindanning in Western Australia. There is very little in Quindanning itself but not far from the hotel is a very representative example of a country church.
There are many of similar shape and size throughout our countryside. This is St Boniface and is an Anglican church. Quite possibly, it is used by other denominations for occasional services. I thought the stonework was very attractive and it is obviously well looked after by the parishioners in the district.

I love the stonework, too! It’s amazing, isn’t it: you’re on the other side of the world, and yet you’ve got churches that aren’t all that different from the “country churches” we have here! (Except they’re not that beautiful with the stones…most of them are wooden.)

It is very simple and small but it would have served its purpose when it was built. It was consecrated in 1956 but I don't know when it was built.

Beautiful building.. and it looks like it's out in the open field.. Are there no trees closer to it?

@epiffanie There is really only the hotel and perhaps one or two other houses. There are a lot of farms around and a big gold mine and a small town about 20 miles away.

I think most denominations are pretty desperate for ministers at the moment. I did secretarial work for the Bishop of Bunbury once and he went to a lot of effort and expense getting a minister from the US. They organised a house, all the parishes donated household goods and furniture. He checked that he'd be happy in a country parish but he only lasted three days in Bunbury and wanted to go back. I don't think he even got to see his intended parish.

That stonework is beautiful! I love it. And the red brick outlines around the windows just adds to the beauty.

@JudyEv I thought it would be much older than that.

@moffittjc I thought so too but I've checked now and it seems 1955 it was built and consecrated the following year. Maybe they wanted something that looked old or maybe they used what was available locally.

It is quite lovely... Most old churches where I live have wooden siding, not stonework.

It does look neat. There is an old fashioned church like that, not too far from here, but it is quite run down. I wish someone would restore that, because it would look as good or better than that one. I should find out who owns it, and see if they would be interested in having a grant written. It would be awesome if that church could be restored. I suppose it belongs to the denomination. I will take a closer look next time to see what denomination it was.

Are there no modern constructions in this district?

No, only maybe where a farmer has built himself a new house. Nearby is Boddington Goldmine and there is a lot of activity there.

The countryside is looking lovely at the moment as it's winter here and the paddocks are green and looking lush.

That is a very attractive little church. I usually visit any church of any significance anywhere I go.

We do too. The small ones have a special attraction to us. I've written here about painting the roof of a small one. We are going there for an endurance ride in about a fortnight. The roof needs redoing but I'm afraid it would be beyond us now.

I LOVE buildings made of stone. We have a stone fireplace in our living room that goes up to the ceiling and is about 12 feet wide (or more).
