Friday and Waiting on Ida

It is a very laid back day here today. We did run to town to pick up hubby's insulin at the drug store, to the post office and a stop at the store to get some bottled water in case the electricity goes off which turns the pump off to the well. Our water (city water) doesn't go out but the pump which filters the water goes out so you are taking chances if you drink the tap water. Better safe than sorry is my theory on that one. Hurricane Ida has gained speed and they are now predicting that the storm will be a Cat 4 at landfall. This is not good news for the residents of southern Louisiana. The photo shows the expected rainfall in the Louisiana and Mississippi areas in the path of the storm. My oldest daughter will be in the 15-20 inches or rain purple area. We are in the red area that is projected to get 10-15 inches of rain. Both of those predictions are bad. All the way up to Memphis, TN where they are expected to get from 4 to 6 inches of rain. This will be a major hurricane. I know we have several myLot members in the path of this storm in Louisana and Mississippi. Ya'll check in and let us all know you are okay!! @LadyDuck They have predicted power outages all the way to Nashville, TN! It's going to be a slow mover once it hits land.

@kareng This is horrible, you can only hope that it fades as it happened to all the previous ones this year.

The west coast of Florida and the golf in general seem to be taking the brunt of the hurricanes this year. I wish you the best of luck. Crossing my fingers that Daytona doesn't get impacted.

You may see some rain from outer bands but that will be all!! And yes, we are getting more than our share. There are two more way out there that could be forming into storms. Hoping they drift away!!

@kareng For your all's sake, I'll agree. I mean we've been lucky so far, and I saw the forcast cone. Florida won't see much of anything at all.

Do you have any worries about the strong winds doing damage to your home? It looks like you will be in the thick of it by the way you described it. I hope you will be safe, and that your daughter and all the rest of your family will be safe too.

I'm more worried about more flooding to the house in Louisiana. Or a tree coming down on the house. That is another possibility. We should be fine here in MS. House on a hill so no flooding issue here. I do have trees all around us but hopefully the storm will be tamed by the time it gets to MS.

@just4him Yes, we got our supplies as soon as we knew it was coming our way. I do not like going to grocery store with people snatching up bread (if there is any left) and having to wait an hour in checkout line. It's worse that Christmas shopping rush!!

@LindaOHio We have a big welding machine that acts/works as generator. It will run AC and refrigerator and stove. Hubby tested it out yesterday.

@kareng Do you have a generator? We are going to get a standby generator after we sell the other house.

We are as ready as we will ever be. Just hoping and praying the rain is not continual and gives a few hours of break time for runoff.

I will put everyone in my prayers and I hope Ida calms down and is not as bad as it might seem, It sure can be scary and I hope for the best for everyone, I hope your daughter will be safe and you too stay safe, When hurricanes have female names I always get a mental image in my head of the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland screaming Off With Her Head!

Thanks for the prayers! It is scary and we just have to take precautions even if they turn out to be not needed. Better to be safe than sorry. It does seem like the hurricanes with female names are the worst!! LOL about Queen of Hearts!!

@CarolDM So far good! About 400,000 in LA without power now!! Our lights have flickered here and it isn't even raining. I am sure we will have some trees down taking power lines with them.

@kareng my thought would be, petition the Governor to make August 30 days, and remove that offending date!
