Tomato sauce

Spend this morning doing tomato sauce with my mom. Every year we make it, we have many tomatoes and homemade sauce is much more healthy then the one we buy at the supermarket. I think we have enough for the year. I woke up quite early today, I have a headache now and I think I will take a short nap. I have more plans for today but I know I won't do everything I wanted. No worries, tomorrow I will do some more things. How is your Sunday going? Do you use to do tomato sauce? Picture of the tomato sauce.

I hope that a nap will fix your headache. We usually put up diced tomatoes for use in chili. I agree that it is much healthier for us.

Wow! You and your mom were very busy! My mom used to can garden product when I was young but I never liked doing that kind of work. I dry a lot of our garden produce, though. Last year I dried enough to last us a couple of years. (As long as it is kept sealed from moisture, dried produce can last years.) I put everything into quart Ziploc bags and put the bags into Tupperware bowls. I found one bag of tomatoes that had mold so I threw that one out. I hope your headache goes away quickly. I just finished watering all the outside plants and am fixing some of the bok choy and beef I made yesterday for lunch. Bok choy, onions and beef. Photo is mine.

@nela13 Thank you. Drying stuff is actually pretty easy. Years ago I bought a cheap dehydrator at Wally World and have used it off and on since then. Last summer, the government here blocked farmers from selling their produce themselves in an attempt to slow down Covid. Instead, the government paid the farmers for their produce and had them deliver it to specified places in local cities and gave the produce to anyone who showed up for it. Pretty and I made the trip every Saturday morning last summer and received two boxes full of free produce. We gave one of the boxes to our elderly neighbors and I dried most of what we kept. (If there was something in the box we didn't want, we gave that to the neighbors, too.) We still don't need to buy most produce this summer... It's been very nice.

Dry the products is also a very good solution, I need to learn how to do that too. Your lunch looks delicious

@DaddyEvil I saw a dehydrator in the Lidl last year but I didn't buy it, next time I will surely buy one. That is great that you have free products and as you dry it, there is no waste.

I've actually never made homemade tomato sauce. I love the idea of it, and it's one of those things that I imagine myself doing but never actually get around to.

@nela13 We don't have a garden. I buy them from local producers generally, but some of them do offer a bulk option that would make it cost effective.

You certainly have a lot of tomato sauce! I’m too afraid to can my own sauce. Sunday I finally returned home after spending the weekend in Boston watching my grandson play ice hockey.

It is very easy to do, just need to cut the tomatoes, smash and boil them with a little of olive oil.
