My first student was fun today.

She is a piano student. I didn't ask her age, but I would guess it to be around 9-years-old. We worked on Are You Sleeping, Brother John? and Twinkle Twinkle Star, both in C-major. We did some right hand work and some left hand work. Before she left, I showed her the C-major scale but told her not to worry about that until next time. To tie in playing by ear and reading notes, I'll write out the notes to Twinkle Twinkle for her next time, as well as the notes for the C-major scale. How is your day going so far? I have one more student to go. Then I drink and relax.

First piece of music I learned on piano: Lyrics: Here we go. Up a row. To a birthday party. 4/4 time C D E (2 counts). C D E (2 counts). D C D E C (2 counts) C (2 counts) . I don't have a piano and I miss playing. I do have a guitar that I need to start learning to play again. Learned to play clarinet in 5th grade and was in band thru 8th grade. Played a bit of baritone sax. I prefer bass clarinet over the licorice stick though. When I play the B-flat clarinet, it feels like my eyes are going to pop out!

Just get back to piano. Guitar can hurt your fingers if you don't play every day and develop callouses. Piano is just...there for you.

I would love to get back to piano. I need to create more space in my little apartment to accommodate one, though.

@TheHorse Some parents are very fearful for their children nowadays. It's such a pity.

@TheHorse It's absolutely justified but still a great shame that they need to be so on the alert as regards the safety of their children. Our son watches South Park so I more or less guessed what you were on about.

In general, I think they do. They make progress, but I do not put TOO MUCH pressure on them. I am NOT a Tiger Mom.

We just chilled at the condo since my foot was bruised and swollen a bit from the disaster of getting cut yesterday. You have some great students. I think they inspire you as much as you inspire them!!

@TheHorse Some people say the 15 Rule is nonsense...I think they're just afraid because they don't understand how it can happen. I can't explain it, either but I can clearly see that it's real.

If bad things happen in 15s, as they say, I remain scared. But nothing really bad happened today.

When I was about 5, maybe younger, I asked for a piano for Christmas. My brother got a guitar, my sister got a violin, and I got one of those 12-note plinky toys. I refused to open my present because I knew it wasn't a piano. My father tried to get me interested in it by playing something like Twinkle, Twinkle (or maybe it was Jingle Bells) on it but I wouldn't have anything to do with it.
