My Granddaughter REFUSES to Get Vaccinated Against Covid!

Angela is 24 so I realize she's an adult and nobody, including me, can tell her what to do but I'm worried sick. Actually I'm worried, a bit angry, frustrated and I guess I should just say terrified. She's a very intelligent young woman but she's also kind of gullible and tends to believe things she reads or hears that aren't exactly true. We were discussing the vaccine recently and she started spouting off various "facts" about the vaccine and about the virus that have either been totally debunked or were unconfirmed by any reliable source. She doesn't even think it makes sense to wear a mask! I worry because I've heard of how so many younger people have gotten very sick with the virus and many have even died and also because her mother, my daughter, has Crohn's Disease and has a compromised immune system. My daughter got her shots, I guess because she got sick of me bugging her about it but that's fine with me, at least she got them, but I realize there have been breakthrough cases and I worry about her catching it from my granddaughter. I realize nobody here can help me with this but I felt the need to vent. My husband gets angry with me when I bring it up and tells me to "mind my own business" but I know he's quite worried himself. I live in an area where there are lots of Trump supporters who refuse to get the shots so I know there's likely a good chance of Angela getting exposed. Anyway, thanks for letting me get this off my chest!

My thoughts exactly! Angela is a VERY smart girl but she's also VERY stubborn and bull-headed. Once she makes up her mind about something that's that. I just hope she changes her mind this time.

No, she's not too young. They're starting to give the shots to kids 5-11 and Angela is 24. Right now it's young people her age that are filling up the ICUs here in the US.

@anniepa Her natural immune system at that age wild do the jpb..There is no real increased protection from the jab for healthy people.

It is unfortunate that you have been unable to get through to her. I'm not really certain what does get through to such people. There is ample information from reliable sources that highlight the very real (and continued) danger posed by this airborne virus, and there is plenty of information showing the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.

Apparently she doesn't believe the "reliable sources" and I have no idea what sources she's going by. She was insisting to me that the vaccines haven't been approved by the FDA, which they have, and that it will be years before they know what side effects there will be from the shots. What she doesn't say is that they already DO know there can be very serious and sometimes permanent after-effects from the virus. I'm just at my wits end!

My eldest grandson won´t have the vaccine even though his father, a doctor, had the covid last year and was intubated in the hospital for some time. I will not talk with him about it (it would anger me too much) but I will not let him come near me. We can hug by phone.

I know how you feel. I feel a bit hesitant about letting Angela hug and kiss me. I don't want to hurt her feelings but I also don't want to get sick! I had my 2 shots but I know there are breakthrough cases and with my luck I'd get it.

@anniepa I feel that if Daniel´s feelings are hurt, ne can do something about it and take the shot for his grandma.

My final grandson just had to get his vaccine for a job so I know what you are feeling. I am very relieved!! All you can do is pray for her and your daughter.

Right now she's a server at a really nice restaurant so I'm hoping they decide to make it mandatory for all employees to get the shot.

@BelleStarr I don't think she'd quit because she really likes her job and if they make her get it there chances are she'd have the same problem anywhere else she'd go and she wouldn't make the money in tips she's making there. At least I HOPE I'm right!

The virus is spreading here among young people, even a few deaths now. Once young people realise that they are vulnerable they will wise up. You are right to be angry, this virus is spoiling everyone's life and life threatening to some. It affects every area of our lives socially and those who refuse to get vaccinated are responsible for prolonging the pandemic.

I agree with everything you wrote. Young people really think they're somehow invincible and even when they're told of people their own age being on ventilators or even dying they have that "it can't happen to me" attitude which is infuriating because it CAN!

There are many lies floating around on the Internet. It's best not to listen to most of the information that's online. Covid is real and it is killing people by the thousands. As you already said, telling your granddaughter this will only make matters worse. Pray for her and watch the Lord open her blinded eyes!

She doesn't watch much news and she's said you can't believe the media. She's not a Trumper so she hasn't gotten her ideas for political reasons but you can't bet wherever she's seen all the stuff she's spouted off to me has come from the radical right.

It is definitely worrisome. I can only hope that she pays heed to the common sense once.

That's what I keep hoping. First she wasn't going to get it, then she changed her mind and said she would and then all of a sudden she changed her mind again and now she doesn't want to talk about it.

Maybe, she will change her mind later on. So let her be and give space until she come to her senses
