Checkout mistakes at the supermarket...

When hubby and I went to Pennsylvania we went to a supermarket with his friend’s wife to get some stuff for dinner. I was by the register when they were checking out but I couldn’t look at the screen as it was turned away from me.
I made sure to look over the receipt before we left. I noticed issues. Regular yellow onions were scanned as shallots, which are way more expensive. Bunch red radish was scanned twice and each time as red beets, which are priced per pound and not per bunch. Don’t get why the cashier couldn’t properly scan these items and why she scanned the red radishes twice. It was obvious we were getting yellow onions and red radish. I was also baffled by the fact that neither hubby nor his friend’s wife wanted to look over the receipt to make sure everything was fine.
I think it was somewhere between $2 and $3 worth of mistakes. I was gonna go back and get it taken care of so hubby can get that money put back on his credit card but he didn’t wanna do that. I wasn’t happy about that. Why throw money away for no reason?

When I told hubby about the mistakes his friend’s wife was still at the store. It was just the two of us. And when she came to the car he told her what happened.

@LeaPea2417 I would, supermarkets already earn a lot, these mistakes only benefit them and harms customers.

It’s not just about getting that money back. It’s the principle of it. If something costs $1, for example, I shouldn’t have to pay more than that for that item. Regardless if the mistake was an accident or not.

@lovebuglena I am like you, it's more the principle than the money. I have the feeling they are cheating me.
I sent an email for a local store, because they always keep the screen turned.

@LadyDuck I should’ve spoken up and asked her to turn the screen my way.

I see no reason either. And it's not just about the money. It's the principle of it. I shouldn't have to pay more for something that costs less.
I also don't get why the register screen was turned away from the customer. Customers should be able to see the screen so they can pay attention to what is being scanned and can catch any mistakes before paying.

@marlina I agree with you. Some people don't bother. And they probably end up overpaying a lot of money in the long run.

I usually only check the receipt in a restaurant. My husband does the food shopping.

From what I remember you told me he doesn't check store receipts.

@LindaOHio That's terrible. I wonder how many times he ended up overpaying, simply because he didn't check the receipt.

@lovebuglena No and he also doesn't check prices. He buys what he wants. :-(

Gotta always check for mistakes and take care of them. Not good to throw money away for no reason.

Because he probably didn't realize it, or consider it a big deal when you pointed it out to him? Being a cashier isn't an easy job after all.I know, I did it for six years at pizza hut.

I think he thought it’s not a big deal. But it is a big deal. It all adds up in the end.

He probably didn’t wanna deal with it. Or thought it was no big deal.

yes some people stand and check their receipts. Hopefully it doesn't happen with mistakes.

That should always be done unless people do not care about overpaying for no reason.

If he didn’t wanna go back I would’ve gone back myself. I’d probably need to take those items with me back to the store. And as the card was his he probably would have to be there too. Unless they don’t ask.

@lovebuglena Oh good then, last time I had mistake like this, I notify SM in advance, so they had enough time to check on CCTV and cashier record. They finally give back what they're mistaken when we're there again for our shopping routine
