This is the first topic in my Google news feed today. I was hesitant to bring this topic out on a site like this, but since we all are 'grown-ups' here so I decided to go ahead at last. This flower is called Amorphophallus decus and those of you know a thing or two about latin nomenclature in scientific names can already see why in English it has got its queer name. This flower has just bloomed in the Netherlands and this is the third time it happened in history. The flower grows six feet tall almost and emanates a corpse like smell like as if you're in a graveyard with rotten fleshes . Curious folks may follow the below link to get to know about this rare happening in detail.

What the heck is this! An unusual flower! Known for nothing that a flower is known for. I hope this is not the result of pollution of our environment

It's nothing unusual except for the size of the flower. We had several of them growing in our yard before we moved. The plant's real name is Corpse Flower.

I don't think it is a result of pollution. The article says that this flower blooms when certain super specific weather conditions are met and so it is extremely rare perhaps.

Interesting that it takes seven years to even get close to blooming.

Yes, the plant remains sort of 'pregnant' for seven years.

@Sojourn Too bad yes. Do people race to see this flower, or will they avoid it if it smells like carrion?

@sinari These botanists in the photo seemed not bothered at all by its smell. And I could only see the women botanists gathering around it, so
