Speculating on Facebook's META-morphosis

People are saying that Facebook is "changing it's name" to META.
I don't quite agree. I mean, they COULD; but when I put 'META . com' (no spaces) in my browser, it redirected to 'a Facebook page' https://about.facebook.com/meta
and clicking on the "What We Build"-link, it lists the 'Facebook app' (all that Facebook originally WAS), 'Messenger,' 'Instagram,' 'WhatsApp,' 'Oculus,'
'Workplace,' 'Portal,' & 'Novi.'
showing me that META is more like ... it's like "Microsoft" to "Bing," or like if "Google" gave a name to 'the company that handles everything-except-the-websearch'---or maybe like GE to all the companies-etc. it runs ... META is a Hub for all the internet-stuff formerly tied to 'Facebook.'
That is ... you know how people say "Are you on Facebook?" the same way they used to say "Are you on MySpace?" or "-Friendster?" or ... I don't remember all the old social-networks ... well, they're not going to STOP being on Facebook and asking 'Are you on META?' instead, are they?

Maybe ... but not even FACEBOOK is the same Facebook it started out as! (I got onto it back when you had to have "a university I.D." to qualify to be on it!)

@nela13 It's kind of like when I first started 'writing on the net,' I felt almost like as if it was "getting published" ... kind of a 'dopamine'-boost, imagining that someone "approved of your work" before it was shared across the internet ...

I think that they are trying to keep up with the young kids and this is more "hip" than the name Facebook, which is old hat by now. Kids like new things only. They don't really play with toys anymore.

Just like us oldsters got tired of the merry-go-round and went inside to play on the computer
