Out of school

Our district is closing for tomorrow, due to the number of kids in quarantine.
I still have to ride with my out of town students, I will get maybe two hours of work tomorrow.
But we have some built in days for school closings in our benefits, so I will still get paid for tomorrow.
I think many kids are needing some recovery time.
Not so much at the elementary, but the older kids.
This definitely gives the schools a chance to do some deep cleaning.
So I may be around a little more tomorrow.

Is this the same school that closed because of no water?

Not this year. I am old, so I do not remember for sure. Remind me. Several years ago I worked in a different district and the entire area had massive freezes and broken city water lines and no water. They had a rain day one year, instead of a snow day.

@BarBaraPrz Nothing about water in this post. It was a comp day for teachers having worked evening conferences.

@GardenGerty Didn't you post last week about no school because of no water?
As a comp day for having evening conferences, the teachers, and everyone else, will be off Friday. So tomorrow the kids will have their Halloween parties....

We have done that part of last year and most of the spring session before that. To me it seems we have fewer ill. They take good precautions when we do have someone ill. While school is out this extra day all the facilities will be given extra sanitation.

@GardenGerty I agree. Recently, I heard that 15 university students killed themselves for being pressured with their online classes here in my city alone.

It's good that you still get paid.
It is going to be a while before this virus is under control. If the school isn't focusing on ventilation and air filtration (in addition to masking, distancing, and vaccinations for all who are eligible) but, instead, is focusing on cleaning surfaces, it's efforts are inadequate in preventing the spread of the virus.

They have had ductss cleaned and they have a sanitizing system installed in each ventilating system. I think this was pro active to get stuff under control for Thanksgiving. Last year they gave us extra days off Thanksgiving week.

@GardenGerty That is good. I worry about the places that focus on surfaces rather than air, because the virus is airborne. There is no significant evidence of transmission via surfaces. Yeah, I think about this a bit too much...

We are not testing everyone weekly, but anyone who wants to be and anyone that has any symptoms is tested as often as they like.

@GardenGerty They are testing weekly the teachers and the students here. Some fully vaccinated teachers have been found positive to Covid and had no symptoms. They are dangerous for the young kids who cannot be vaccinated yet.

I had a "snow day" I could use. That was recommended. Actually we now call it "school closure day".I get three of those to start the year and six personal days and six sick leave days.

Not all in quarantine have active cases, but they have been in close contact. The schools are doing deep cleaning. Some of our routines that have been having our kids in bigger groups are being discontinued again.

As an example, we got one new positive case Thursday morning, but because of close contacts and siblings about a dozen kids were in quarantine. Usually t involves kids isolating and being given a rapid test every other day for a week. At the middle school they had seventy kids in this situation.

Not everyone is sick, but many have been exposed. The district is using the extra day for deep cleaning.

They are not all actively sick, but have been directly exposed. The reason they closed the schools for that extra day was so they could do deep cleaning and disinfect all surfaces.
