So, last night I started reading a book sample that apparently is the number one best seller. It has to do with a disappearing husband. I am wondering if it is like Gone Girl except with a male as the title character? Anyway, I signed up with my library system through the Overdrive app. Apparently the library has 17 copies, however, I am 104 on the list.... Sometimes you can get a book surprisingly quickly, but probably not this one. I think it will take close to 6 months. One book, I think I missed my turn however, when it was originally due, Killing Lincoln, the Bill O' Reilly book, I didn't get until about a year after I requested it. Do you ever wait for library books?

The public library is not very close to us, so we never go there.

This one is on the way to town. I need to check it out since Covid restrictions are over. I might donate some books, or use the paperback exchange.

@LadyDuck We have those too, but they aren't in old phone booths. They are called The Little Free Libraries. They are fun to use.

@snowy22315 The old phone booths have been transformed in small libraries. You can leave a book there and take a book that you like.

No... we haven't been in the public library here in about three years.

I haven't been in the library for quite awhile. THis is all done online. The Overdrive app is all digital from your libraries collection.

@DaddyEvil Our library was only open by appointment due to the pandemic for much too long. I think they finally have normal hours now.

@snowy22315 I just download free ebooks to my phone and read them. Before I switched to ebooks I kept donating the books I bought to the library here but they stopped accepting them three years ago so I've no reason to go there now.

Does your library subscribe to Hoopla? It may be available on there without the wait. There have only been a couple of books during the past year or so that I've had to wait on. The wait times weren't that long, though, since these weren't recent releases or suddenly trendy for some reason.

I have been meaning to check that out. Maybe I will give them a call today and find out if they do. I know for a fact they are on Overdrive, since that is what I use.

@wilsongoddard I think I may have a card already with Henrico county which is outside a large city. Also. my current library system encompasses Charlottesville VA which is hip. Glad you brought this up though think in a few I will call the current libe and see if they associate with Hoopla. Where will you be moving to?

@snowy22315 Hoopla is brilliant. My only real complaint about it is that credits don't carry over to the next month. If your local library doesn't, it may be worth checking the closest city library. Depending on their rules, you likely can get a card through them for a small fee. For me, I'm planning to do that when we move out of the city, because there are things that the library system of our intended doesn't seem to have that are available through our current primary system.

It is pretty well organized. I am grateful to have a good library, although I don't use it that often in person. I tend to use the ebooks more.

@snowy22315 I am not sure if public libraries still exist nowadays. Years back I went to one but it was quite small and the books were not that much

What is the name of the book? I would probably be impatient and end up buying it used or something before waiting for that list to reach my number.

So far, I've never had to. If I want to "read" it's an autobook I aim for. With so many options, waiting usually isn't the case.

What is an autobook? You mean an audible book? I am confused. Do you mean a book on CD?

Our city library is not that useful for readers or bookworms.

I usually only read if I get inspired, or if I am in danger of using all my internet time. Since I am near the end of my data allowance, I have been reading more.

I think the library finally has standard hours again. They were only open by appointment due to Covid for the longest time. It was super annoying. I can understand wanting to be safe, but it was overkill.
