tornado in November

OMG we just had a tornado come through, it was up in the air when it went over us Thank God, but some people a little south of us were not so fortunate. In Demopolis, AL there were some rain showers and all of a sudden a tornado dropped out with no warning at all. I will be praying for the people of Demopolis tonight. From what the tv has said there's alot of damage. Have you ever experienced a tornado like this, that pops out from no where in an odd season like November?

I just heard about that on television. I went to nearby Livingston University several years ago. There was a tornado that came through here in January in about 1998. It didn't touch down but caused quite a bit of damage. We had a lot of wind here last night too. The temperature dropped really fast.

Only some limbs down at my house. I was surprised because while I was laying in bed it sounded terrible.

I am also glad you are ok. I am not from the US and don't experience things like tornadoes, but I would love to see one (obviously without getting hurt or anything like that), it must be apsolutely awseme to see and hear! I just don't understand one thing. Why is it that so many homes in tornado areas are made of wood? I would build a solid concrete house, maybe even with some serious steel re-enforcing. I don't know, I just don't get it. Another thing, why would anyone want to live in an area which is freequented by tornadoes?

one things about tornados, you never know where they are going to hit, and the area that we live in has only recently been this populated, like in the past 10 years because of Germany putting a Mercedes Benz plant here. And about the construction of homes, I think that the main reason that they are built of wood is because of cost, some homes are brick but they are more expensive, the majority of people in this area have mobile homes, and I highly believe that this is due to the cost, you can get a mobile home much bigger and cheaper than an actual house, the only problem is that they are less sturdy and more dangerous in a bad weather situation. And back to the subject of frequent tornados, my grandmother lived in the same house for over 50 years with out ever having a tornado come through, and in 2000 her house was destroyed by one. I know you may think that they are awesome and everything, but the only safe way to see one is on tv, they are very powerful and very dangerous.

You guys get these storm chasers which are pretty clued up on what they are doing, some of them have all that doplar radar equipment to track these storms and gain some info about them. That must be pretty cool. I have also heard that there has not been any storm chasers ever killed! Is that true? The only slightnly crazy thing I have started doing from the end of last year it film lightning from my house. Closest strike we've had so far is about 40 meters! Yesterday we had about 10 strike up to about 100 meters away. Could not film though - was too dangerous! Anyhows going off the topic there a bit. I would love to go on one of those storm chasing excursions. I see you can actually book a storm chasing tour in the US! Saw the site on the Net!

good luck with your "adventure" lol, Ive seen enough of them by being in them, I dont feel the need to actually chase one down, but if you like the danger then I wish you the best. I guess it would be an adrenaline rush kind of like basin jumping, or sky diving, huh?

yes tornados are very dangerous, and can be very strange too, the same one I mentioned about last night, went back up into the sky and stayed for about 150 miles or so then came back in another county

Glad you guys are ok! You have to remember though, it's been rather warm for this time of year, and there's a cold front moving in. I'm in TN, and it was in the low 70's today. Not sure what's normal for this time of year here, but I doubt it's 70's. I read on NOAA awhile back, tornados this time of year are rare, but do happen. That's sad they didn't get a chance to put a warning out.
