Black Wooly Worm Prediction

Was just on the phone with my cousin. Her daughter found a solid black wooly worm. She sent me this photo. Since black fuzzy caterpillars look threatening, you might think they are probably poisonous too. The good news is that they are not poisonous. Also, when you see a solid black one, the saying goes that the winter will be severe. Maybe, maybe not. We will see. Photo is my cousin's.

Oh this is interesting. We also have superstitions about weather predictions. If you peel a chestnut and the internal peel is very hard to remove the winter will be severe. I did not even arrive to peel one yesterday.

Never seen such a specimen here. May be it is specific to a area or region? By the way, the kind of seasons we have been having indicate that the cold weather would be very chilly!

@CarolDM Thanks, those are handsome moths (I just looked them up) although those caterpillars seem to have a band of ginger hairs around their middles.

Hopefully the winter there will be fine. when I see caterpillars I will try to stay away from them because I have been exposed to them many times but luckily they are not poisonous, but as a result my body feels hot and very itchy, when exposed to water it makes things worse, and finally I applied some powder and started the fan.

I've never seen something like that over here. Good to know that they are not poisonous. Hoping that the winter is not that severe. I hate it when it gets too cold
