Nephew in hospital

A worrying few days for my sister. Her son was in pain for a few days and eventually diagnosed with appendicitis. He was kept in hospital and told that he would be the first one operated on the next day (yesterday). As always in our hospitals surgery was not carried out until 8pm last night. Strangely enough there was nothing wrong with his appendix but he had an infection in that area so they whipped them out anyway! Today he is sitting up and eating so hopefully they will let him go home soon. They don't keep them in long because they need the beds. I can see he is going to have my sister running round after him. He'll probably get a little bell that he can keep ringing when he wants something! Get well soon Luke.

It is weird that they could not spot the infection. I hope he goes back home today and will be no more in pain.

@LadyDuck I haven't spoken to my sister today. She gets up later than I do but I will text her in a minute.

He's still in there at the moment and waiting for a scan. I hope there won't be a problem.

@sprite1950 They want to be sure that he is well before letting him go back home. I hope all is well with him.

@sprite1950 I thought Luke was a kid. I hate staying in hospitals. It's a nightmare. I'm afraid of needles and blood

@Nawsheen Haha I think I made him sound like that in my discussion. He lives with my sister as she got cancer and needed looking after. She is better now but he stays just in case.

Having an appendix out is unusual any more. At least here. Unless it absolutely has to come out, doctors want it left in there. I hope he gets better quickly.

They are not even sure it was his appendix but thought the infection might spread'

@sprite1950 If it was his appendix, it's normally easy to tell if there's a problem. They puff up and turn bright red. They showed me mine when they removed it a hundred years ago. That sucker looked like a deflated cherry tomato...

@DaddyEvil He had keyhole surgery but I'm not quite sure how that works. They said his appendix was not infected but they decided to remove it as the infection was in that area. He has to have another scan now.

Thank you. He's not a child, he's 40 but he doesn't want to take too much time off work.

@Icydoll It's okay thanks. I recently got Covid but only mildly. I caught it from my granddaughter who brought it home from school.

We were hoping he could come home but it looks like he might have to spend another night in.
