Grandma's Secret Sugar Cookie Recipe

So yesterday was a nice quiet day. I had my housework and laundry done and my best friend Elaine stopped over. We saw a commercial for one of those holiday baking shows, which got us talking about me finding my Grandma's Christmas Cookie recipe.
After she left all I could think about was how good those cookies are. I was pretty bored too so I thought I'd make a small batch, like a trial run of Grandma's cookies.
It only took like 15 minutes to make the dough and after chilling the dough for an hour I was ready to roll them out and get baking. I even made the homemade icing and frosted them.
I swear Elaine has a nose better than my dogs because right as I was finishing up she was back over with an empty bag. I sent a dozen home with her for her and her husband. I made 2 dozen and if I didn't give her half I would have eaten them all myself. (It's happened in the past..lol)
As you can see I didn't get fancy with the decorating like I do for Christmas but they still tasted delicious.
Do any of you have certain recipes that are handed down that are a must to make for the holidays?

Those are so lovely!!
That is funny Elaine came right over when you just got done
I bet those are scrumptious!
I love the colored icing too.
Well it used to be mince meat pies I used to make but that was years ago.
And you would have lovely whipped cream on top.

@RebeccasFarm I know it is...lol. I'll have to put it on lockdown so when we do Christmas cookies I'll make the dough the day before we bake. That sounds so mean..lol

It really is nice to go back and use recipes that I haven't made in a while. It brings back good memories

@WomanWarrior1969 I hope I can have my granny's recipe. She is not living here with us. I hope after this pandemic. Is she in heaven now? I am sorry if I may ask.

I got so many of my Grandma's recipes. I love them all. Plus when I make one of her recipes it makes me think of her and all the good times we had cooking and baking together.

I love tortellini. What kind are you making? I like the ones with meat and the cheese kind.

@WomanWarrior1969 Yes, the small ones with meat and Parmesan cheese inside.
Here is a photo I took a couple of years ago while I was making them.

Thank you. I just threw the icing on them cuz it was a test run. When I do Christmas cookies I take a lot of time decorating so they look almost as good as they taste

I wish I had all my cook books but they are all in storage. I'll have to go to storage the next time I go down to Richmond.
